My ‘83 970 acquired not so long ago. I’ve been really enjoying getting dialed in on this bike. Tried to revive old Superbe brake pads, now better but still squealing, so probably have to switch them out.
I catch myself stopping to admire this one… a lot.

Nice bike in a nice setting! Beware of overloading those Sunlite canti-racks - the mounting tabs like to crack. But front baskets are the bomb, especially for commuting.

@theblackbullet always nice to see a properly large-sized Trek! You running those Tektro long reach calipers for potential 650B, or was it just out of reach of standard reach 47-57mm calipers? The pewter color really lends itself to stealth modernization. The black components look good on it.

I acquired it as a bare frameset, and I assumed or though I read somewhere that I'd need long reach going from 27" to 700c. 47-57 caliper would work perfectly.

I love that museum, it's what our joke of a lakeside "community center" should have looked like. Perfect venue for a shoot, esp being not far from where the subject bike was hatched.
Haven't been to Mke in ages, should get back there just to take in the updates to the bike infrastructure.

This 1980 Trek 614 followed me home from a thrift store today (as did 2 1986 Specialized Rockhoppers lurking in the background). I'm not quite sure if I'm going to rehab it or sell it quite yet...I suppose I just need to get out and ride it to see how the fit works with me. The frame is in great shape; anyone out there have any experience with these not-yet-in-the-catalog 600s from 1980 with the N serial numbers and pretty bare frames?
For some reason, the thrift stores around me like to attach $$$$ price tags on bikes. After I picked up a lovely Trek 600 from the original family, I thought I'd stop by the local thrift store just to see if I could double my wins...well, they had 3-4 bikes, nothing special, and they were like $190!!

@75lechamp , you were telling me about this bike on our ride, but it is really nice to see pictures. It looks to be in fabulous condition, and fun to see what I might want to do w/ mine as far as bar tape and tires go, etc. It's the little touches, like the blue housing, that are those subtle things that really make a difference.
Maybe we can both drag our Treks out on one of the next local ride, although I need to up my game and probably get a Trek jersey or something.

Question for the Trek collective - is there a definitive answer on which years or models Trek used a faux lug stamping on the headtube? This design was brought to my attention based on the thread with @scarlson and @Standalone showing pictures of their cracked Trek 6xx bikes. I also noticed that my Trek 560 Pro Series also has a 1-piece headtube and lug set.
Do we know which other years or models have this as well? I'm making an assumption that all of the higher end Treks (9xx and 7xx series) did not have 1 piece headtube/lug combos?

Mentioned this in the co-op thread, a 531 Trek Elance that looks like a 25" frameset. It has a 34" standover height with some old 30C wheels on it and I have no reason to keep it, having sworn off bikes over 24"/62cm. Really scuffed and scraped, but I find no dents or cracks although it looks like the rear spacing was narrowed for fixie/SS use.
