Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Just bumping this thread to give the fishermen in the Trek thread a heads up about what the world record catch truly is.

- If you're on the front, don't ride on the very edge of the pavement. Give some room for the echelon behind you.
- If you're on the front, you MUST pedal down the hills. Do not coast.
- If the line is hammering and you want out, you must hammer until you are on the front - even if it kills you - and then pull off. Do not pull out of the middle of the line. That's dangerous, and it creates a gap that the rider behind you must cover. You will get yelled at.
- When it's your turn to pull through and take your turn on the front, DO NOT accelerate. That's bad.
- When it's your turn to pull off the front, flick your elbow and move smoothly to the side. Nothing abrupt.
Talk about an old post! Timeless info, none the less.

It is the gift that keeps on giving.

(Actually if we keep bumping this we can distract the 41 from the 33 for a good long time.)

Today my racing team ride met up with a small group of "A" riders from the local cycling club. Some of them race. We rode back together and part of the ride was on a busy two-lane road with a 3' wide shoulder/bike lane. Some of the ride was a non-rotating double paceline and it was a pleasure to pull off the front (me slightly to the right and my partner slightly to the left) leaving a small gap and having the entire group go through and reconfigure with absolutely no drama. No yelling was required!

sounds more like both pacelines were rotating to me. you clockwise and your partner counter.

get your descriptions right or there will be yelling required.

I hardly think that it was rotating when we were on the front for about 5 minutes.
