Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I wish there was as much live TV coverage of a rally race here on the west coast as some east coast hockey game nobody in PHX cares about. Maybe it'll hit youtubes in a couple days...

This year, the year we tore out all the crappy overgrowth in the back yard and laid down a thick layer of mulch, was also a year of a phenomenal acorn drop from our two Live Oaks. The squirrels seem to have buried most of them. Now, every time I patrol the mulch, I usually pull a dozen or more oak seedlings, often with acorn still attached. From mighty acorns little oaks grow.

Remember, an oak tree is just an acorn's way of making more acorns.

I was looking on Facebook Marketplace, and I saw an entry for "Road bike tires with rims". Something caught my eye, which was the QR acorn nut, which looked like the very distinctive Dura Ace EX version, which has 6 fins. The seller says they're both front wheels, but one of them is definitely a rear, for a freewheel. Not sure whether they're clinchers or tubs, but at the price ($50 the pair), I'll take a risk. If they're the latter, well, I'll just learn how to glue tubulars. I'm going to check them out tomorrow.

You'll like it. I got the snow blower to match the lawn mower, and if you remember, we had this, and it hung in there. I just put it away and busted out the lawn mower, and I'm thrilled with it. So thrilled, I just ordered the weed whacker and leaf blower.

What a fantastic idea. We are doing similar with a wedding budget right now. The little CPA has all sorts of spreadsheets with budget variables. We told her, “Here is what we will spend. You figure it out “. If we don’t do that, we’ll end up spending double.

Back to phones, teens and limited data in the 2020s just don’t work well together.

I’ll remember that. We are on the hook for a big party somewhere in Iceland when the pandemic is over.

I have some time to prepare - she wants to do it in 11/2022. She doesn’t want a “COVID wedding.” I’m okay with putting it off a bit.
