My Girlfriend is cooler than your girlfriend...
because she knit me helmet earwarmers!
She found the pattern off of menknit.com and whipped these puppies up for me. I've tolerated NYC winters pretty well thus far (50 degrees today doesn't hurt), but the windchill on my ears gets to me sometimes. These just slide over your helmet straps and are super snug after you clip the straps.
If tonight is anything like last night I'll be trying them out in a few hours.
She's making a second set for herself and is considering selling pairs if they work well. I suggested that she line them with gore windstopper, but I don't know where to buy it as a fabric alone.

Nope, she's cooler because she doesn't make up pick up your room. I count at least five infractions there that I would never hear the end of.

Wait...she knitted those? They look like polar fleece in the pictures. Is it just bad contrast, did she spend a crap-load of time on them, or did you mean sew?
Whatever they case, they're pretty nice looking. Your girlfriend is cooler than mine.

Have her check out a big fabric store like Hancocks. They stock that kind of stuff. There are also a couple of places that sell this stuff online, I have seen it while looking for tarping for bags.

She can buy polar fleece fabric at any store like Jo-ann fabrics. Easier anyway to just sew it in triangles, slide it on. Good idea, I'll make myself some.

Knitted earwarmers make me wonder what she was saying about you at the stitch-n-biatch.

The warmers worked out great. You have to adjust your helmet straps out a bit, but once you clip them on they aren't going anywhere. They made my helmet fit better too. I rode down the west side greenway at a pretty good clip and noticed that I didn't hear much of the wind passing by my ears. It wasn't totally eliminated, but it was much quiteter and made for a nice ride. I could hear everything else just fine.
As for warmth, my ears were toasty, but it only dropped down to 42 degrees last night. It was nice having warm ears, but an exposed head, so air could still flow through my helmet and keep me from sweating too much up there. I'm definitely looking forward to some windstopper lined ones for when it gets 20 degrees cooler.
I know it would have been easier to sew polarfleece flaps together, but she wanted to knit these for me out of some crazy yarn, and I really appreciate the effort.
