Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Ah, the helmet with visor is on half price sale again. Perhaps 35 is the normal price (but they do occasionally put it up). It is a nice helmet with good anti-insect mesh and a safe looking thickness. No affiliation.

You're not the only one who blames me for things that I had nothing to do with. After all, I am married.

I’ve been telling my wife lately that she should blame you and not me.

It can’t be your fault if it’s my fault.

So do y’all know if the OPs original glasses come with transition lens? My best friend recently took my glasses, so I am in need of new pair that is both practical, aero, and looks awesome. Also if it protects my eyes from the cold that’s a bonus.

I am still rocking the visor (and lenses) which is now yellow as remains my cycling wear.

I don't ride as low as I did so often, partly because I prefer the sphinx position, except when I need to have my hands on the brakes at high speed.

The glasses could be made with any lenses, including transition, and remain practical for those who want to get low but I recommend the ultra tough Trivex (as I am now using) which does not come in photochromic at least in the store that I purchased from.

also, I hope you realize that there is a much easier solution to your problem too. It's called wearing contact lenses. That way, your image is always in focus, no matter which way your eyes or eyeballs are turned. Good luck with the ridicule.
Not all of us can (or should) wear contacts. (I probably could but I would have lost at least one eye long ago if I did.)

If he comes back to respond, you win.

But to piggy back on you. I personally don’t like wearing contacts. After wearing them for about 6 hours my eyes start to hate me. On regular rides or training rides I wear my glasses that have transition lens.

I will wear contacts when I race, so I can wear my cycling appropriate sun glasses. That might sound silly, but one of the guys on my team has a gnarly scar across his face and almost lost an eye wearing metal framed glasses at a race.

I had a local Optician create some cycling glasses with very tall frames on top of some half framed reading glasses. My eyes end up looking like those of Goofy (cartoon dog) but the tall glasses allow me to look out of the tops of my eyes, limited only by my brows. They really need to be this tall to be able to achieve this.

I heartily recommend them. Spandex looks silly too but we wear it because it works.
Lycra does not look silly.

There are literally companies who invest in R&D and develop cycling specific glasses (Oakley, Smith, etc., not to name them). There are also helmet with built in glasses...

These never get old. Might not work under a helmet, though.

To most non-cycling folks, Lycra does looks silly, and the weirdos who wear it are frequently mocked.

The OP has very specific needs related to his very extreme position on his road bike, and was experimenting with a solution that he wasn't finding with typical manufacturers. You're also responding to a post that is almost 9 years old.

This is EXACTLY why I don't ever wear metal-framed glasses when I'm doing activities with an elevated potential for falling down.

I like my Oakley metal-frame, aviator-ish style glasses for driving and general walking around stuff. Bike is all plastic. Sure, you could theoretically skewer your eyeball with a plastic earpiece, too, but it seems less likely. I guess I could also fall down while walking down the sidewalk, too, but again, that seems less likely than on a bike.

I found that these literal companies did not make prescription inserts that go up higher than ordinary glasses.

(In general, I think that literal companies provide a lot of tosh a lot of the time)

From earlier in the thread

This may be one of the reasons why bampilot chooses to wear contacts under his sunglasses.

I am very pleased to see Timtak is still reading, posting, and riding. He is one of the Original BF Gangsters, and either an complete .... ummm... outlier, a true pioneer, or just a creative genius ... or maybe all that and more.

When you mention the "sphinx" position, Mr. Timtak, I assume you aren't commuting and riding in traffic much?
