1991 Diamondback Axis 18"
I have just aquired this 91 DB Axis from it's original owner. The bike is full original and shows nothing more than a few years of college commuter use. The paint is immaculate and not a chip that I could find. Full XT M730 grouping on it which is why I bought it. I will put this group set on my 90 Klein Rascal and am thinking of selling the frame seat seat post bars and stem all together or keeping the bike putting a threadless stem adaptor on it adding a Sunday BMX stem maybe some Surley Sunrise bars and a 1x drive train. Thoughts?

Well it’s official I really like this bike. Very forgiving frame absorbs the road bumps really nicely. It may need a
BMX bar conversion however, my days of long reach bikes are behind me.

Nice DB! Weird I have the same “horsehair” splatter paint on my 91 Costco mtb, now SS city bike. Maybe painted at the same factory?

Ya that Skykomish looks real good. Sunrise bars would be the cherry on top for sure. Need my gears though 1x7 would be the ticket.

It could be but that paint scheme was fairly popular around this period and can be found on a number of different brands manufactured by several different companies. However, most manufacturers had in-house painting facilities and the serial number will tell us if your bicycle was manufactured by one of the sources that produced Diamond Back.

If you don’t mind I’m going to “borrow” this. If I can remember how to switch it, it might look cool in B&W.

Little DX add on. Don’t have a rear set though.☹️ Anyone know if Cook Bros brake levers or any other BMX caliper type levers would work with cantis?

I'm a sicker for old Diamondbacks. Seems a shame to part it out. Consider a sale?

Surly Sunrise Bar

Got about six months of tinkering before I settle on what path I’m taking with this bike. In one sense it’s so nice as original, would mean I strip my Klein of it’s XT package and put these wheels on it with other XT components. Then I still don’t have a neighborhood cruiser
