My 1992 Giant Tourer (hybrid touring bike)
Good Evening
A bike I have never posted before but which I like a lot, my 1992 Giant Tourer, it is all original except for the saddle which was uncomfortable,the wheels and the tires that I replaced since the original ones were low end and fragile . The Shimano Altus C10 transmission which is 30 years old works flawlessly, the paint is stunning
The 4130 crmo frame is very comfy and the giant geometry favorizes comfort on long distances. It was given to me by a friend who was getting rid of it almost 10 years ago because he wanted something new, so I took it.
It is rides extremy well.

Altus C10 didn't debut until the 1993 model year, so it should be no earlier than that. However, it could have been manufactured and even sold in late 1992. The serial number should give tell us exactly when the frame was manufactured. I'm not familiar with this particular model, though it's similar to some mid-1990s Giant hybrids. Perchance you're located outside North America? Hybrids are an often overlooked solution to a relaxed, comfortable riding bicycle, compatible with wide tyres.

It's interesting that your bike came with downtube bosses, sort of drives home the lineage with road/touring bikes. And +1 on praise for Altus from that era, I have worked on/ridden several with that setup--it's not flashy but it works great. Old hybrids are wonderful bikes to ride.

Mine is a mix of shimano altus a10 and shimano altus c10 so a 1992 model with a mix of 1993 c10 parts for instance the crank and the front derailleur,the rest is strictly shimano altus a10. I will have a glance when I have time about serial number and keep you informed.
Mixing components from adjacent groups was a common method to hit a slightly lower price point. There's no exact match for your bicycle in the North American market, so I assume you're located elsewhere. It sounds like a cross between the Nutra and Innova models offered in the USA and Canada. The paint scheme appears to be the Metallic Cadet Blue/True Blue Blend spec'd on the Nutra.
Are you sure your rear derailleur is an A10? It looks more like a C10.

Both Altus A10 & C10 (along with A20 & C20) were only manufactured for the 1993 model year, so this should be a 1993 model. Basically, the Altus series replaced the Shimano 100GS and 200GS components from 1992. For 1994, the Altus series was streamlined to a single, new group, C50.
Mixing components from adjacent groups was a common method to hit a slightly lower price point. There's no exact match for your bicycle in the North American market, so I assume you're located elsewhere. It sounds like a cross between the Nutra and Innova models offered in the USA and Canada. Upon closer examination, the serial number would appear to be GU2A0808. This indicates that the frame was manufactured during weeks 41-42 of 1992 which would be around mid-October. While the start of manufacturing for the upcoming model year can vary from year to year, normally it starts around the beginning of September. Consequently, this frame was manufactured late enough in the 1992 calendar year to be a 1993 model.

Finally after years, it was time to give this old bike better wheels , better and hubs and a whole transmission upgrade. I chose mavic A719 rims which are some of the best rims for gravel bikes, some xt 780t hubs that I had in spare, xt 780t and xt 780m transmission plus xt 8000 pedals. The result is vas improvement over altus transmission and the original wheels , the xt 780t v brakes are much more performing than the altus cantilevers . Testrode it in heavy rain and it handles , brakes and shifts extremely well. Its relaxed geometry is ideal for long hauls
