Too many sutures in my arm to do any riding........this fine morning a group of MPBC (Mass. Park Bipedal Club) members decided to take a nice hike in Sunken Meadow and Nissequogue River State Parks. Very nice. And yesterday I got licked by a horse. Gotta keep busy.

Bike content; still a lot of icy spots on the trails, risky without studded tires, but that looks like it's about to change tonight.

The Denton Avenue Bridge was delayed by the village of Garden City Park refusing to issue a work permit, but a judge overruled the village. Considering it a worthy news story, I went to take pictures.




Building on the corner of Main and Second in Mineola burned. Had a T-Mobile dealer.

I rode 16.33 miles Monday. Weather was promising in the morning after the rain stopped, but quickly clouded up again, and the temperature dropped about 14°F.
I have a fairing that keeps my hands and fingers warm, it was my toes that got cold. Should have put on wool socks. But the leg warmers worked (I’m stills wearing shorts).

I'll try not to do this again

Yesterday the doc took out his needlepoint work and admonished me to go forth and sin no more, "and take it EASY for a week"........so I softened up the fork and avoided all the log piles. 2 out of 3 of us were on our first rides post surgery. Not my most comfortable ride and only 11 miles, but the days are getting longer......

Yes. Been hiking up there with other MPBCers in lieu of riding when it's really cold. We had a "AA walk" with 14 of us the other day. Today I gritted my teeth and got the bike out.

I have to go explore. If seen there's a trail system, getting better every year, it's just a schlepp, 50 minutes from home, there are better places at that distance.

I think I get what you're saying..........it IS a long drive from the south shore. Caumsett offers little in the way of "technical" single track. Exceptions to that, at least for me, are the 2 trails which hug the edge of the bluffs, where I took the pics of the shoreline, but these are short. There are some pretty steep grades to be found elsewhere but the vast majority of the trails are wide fire roads/bridle paths. Right now gentle riding is what the doctor ordered for me....actually he ordered me to "take it easy" with strong emphasis on "easy". OK, doc....

But on the other hand, the place is beautiful.

When I create a route in TrailForks, it seems there might be 10 miles or more of OK trails. Like I said, I need to go explore.

I think you will find that the majority of those miles are bridle paths.

Exploring is good! I've also done some poking about in Pine Ridge Conservation Area just south of 495 in Melville. It's a bit of a maze with lots of wide (and often beat up from ATVs) trails. Some very steep grades in there, and yes there IS a "pine ridge". There is some single track and that loose gravelly sand. Exploring is good.

Dunno, there's all these green and blue trails that I think are single track. I've seen a few YouTubes from Long Islanders riding here, looks interesting.

Yes, it sure does! Now I'm going to have to try those, a lot of them I don't think I've seen. The work never ends.

27* and 30 miles with a strong wind out of the North.

It was cold but i needed to try out my new lobster gloves. Better than the 5 finger but not as warm as I hoped.

I got six miles in on Thursday. Re-erected the rain canopy. Was not perfectly happy with the windshield, so I ordered a 16” by 32” by 1.6mm thick piece of clear vinyl from Amazon, which arrived less than 24 hours later. Made a cross brace to hang the vinyl from using a 1” by 4” piece of Azek PVC.

Maybe for the weak, but it’s not a problem for me . I believe sailors refer to “heeling into the wind”.
The protection outweighs the effort of steering into the occasional gust.
It’s like an umbrella ☔️, but stronger. Have you ever wished someone would invent an umbrella ☂ that doesn’t shred to pieces in a strong wind? This is it!

Honestly with all the layers i'm wearing it would have to be a monsoon for me to feel wet.

$20 and you don't have to be in a bicycle for it to keep you dry.

There’s actually a company in France that makes such a thing. It was cheaper to build my own.
I can usually take off my jacket when using the fairing, no windchill.

The Bethpage MUP had lots of meltwater, I should have taken the 10 minutes to put on the fenders. 33 miles and my first road ride in a few weeks. It's a start.

Did some maint since the bike was FILTHY. Remove the chain and cassette and ran then through the parts washer... came out like new.

Denton Avenue Bridge-a concrete pumper is supplying the monolithic pour for the new three track LIRR bridge

This is actually a type of Human Powered Vehicle, used by the railroad, on the new LIRR Third Mainline Track at New Hyde Park

I rode 22 miles from my home to Jamaica, and returned home on the train. I have somewhat of a touring bike, do I packed a bowl of rice and a bowl of lentils in locking lid bowls.

April again!.....for a day. Shorts, short sleeves, ice cubes in the bottle. While my paltry 25 miles certainly doesn't qualify as "seize the day", I certainly sidled close enough to sniff its hair.
