Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I didn’t mean that in a negative sense. Most of us aren’t going to wait for an injury, especially a chronic one, to get all better before getting on with out lives.

I think that I’ve mentioned this before but I’ve ridden a bit with Dr. Gabe Merkin who is supposedly the doc who came up with RICE which he has changed his opinion of in recent years.

I was looking at tires for the Lotus. I'd gotten a deal on Vittoria Corsa G+ from Competitive Cyclist - $34 bucks each! I went back there two days ago, and they were still that price. But I didn't want to spend $70 on tires that day, given all the other bits I've spent money on the last couple weeks. So I check back last night, and the price is up to $54 each. Nuts. Opportunity cost in this case would b $40. Ended up buying some Michelin Dynamic Classics. $15 each, because who am I kidding? Am I going to take Mrs Peel on long trips up and down mountains? Not with a 42 x 23 lowest gear, I'm not.

Riddle me this, Batman - why do they make hydration mix tablets for 16 oz, when all the bike bottles are either 21 or 24 oz?

I don’t buy them, but likely for same reason they sell hot dogs in 6 or 12 packs but rolls in 8 packs.

Mix it in a measuring cup, and then pour it in your bottle. Two 24 oz bottles equals three 16 oz mixes. Thus, perfect mix ratio for the guy that carries two bottles.

Alternatively, snap one tablet in two at the scored line, and at 1.5 tablets to each bottle.

But the question is, why do they make it that way? Why not make each tablet for 24 oz in the first place?

This week's lesson: restoring vintage bikes is a dangerous pastime for those with a tendency to obsess.

Not sure what you mean, he is a doctor. I just know he's backed off on his RICE theory somewhat but I don't remember why. You can google his website if you want to dig around. He's a prolific writer.

Mrs. Abshipp and I were invited out to dinner last night by a good friend here in Rockford to celebrate us moving. We accepted knowing that this is one of those people who always keeps us out later than we really want to be.

True to form, dinner was at 5:30PM but we didn't get home until about 2:30AM

Can't complain too much though, she's been a wonderful friend during our time here, plus dinner was one of the best meals I've ever had.
