Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Speaking of coffee, I usually make coffee for mrs datlas before I leave for work each morning. We had/have a power failure this morning, so she is on her own. They estimate it will be restored before noon.

I just ordered the Aeropress mini for traveling even though the reviews are “meh.”

Making coffee for the Mrs is really the only thing on the morning checklist that I *need* to do, so much so that it can be a juggling act, at times. If I want to get out for a morning ride, do I have enough daylight to get in the ride before I wake my wife with a coffee? Or do I have to push the ride back slightly and wake her with coffee a little early, while still giving myself enough time to ride and get back in time to take care of the kids before she's on the clock?

*sigh* the difficulties of being a stay-at-home mom.

Did you see the little thumb pump travel espresso thingie that Hoffmann reviewed? Actually, he has a video with four (IIRC) travel espresso... solutions... but the little thumb pump one seemed the most interesting.

[edit: bike-related content - one of them is essentially a modified bike pump]

Hey, I just posted this in the mechanics forum. Anyone here have ideas?

I have standard, modern, Shimano "cups" threaded into a titanium shell on my commuting bike. All parts are relatively new. Since installation, the BB has gotten creaky every few months and responded to torquing back to spec, but no longer. I tried a heavy application of blue thread locker and then about three wraps of PTFE tape (cups still screwed in easily) when that didn't work. The tape helped, but didn't fix it.

What should I try now, more tape? Is there anything else?

You sure it's not your crankarm bolts?

Take them out, apply tiny amount of grease and torque to spec. That's the first suspect when the "BB" is creaking.

Heavy liquid threadlocker can sometimes defeat the purpose as it may not cure all the way thru. I’ve done that on things only to pull the part later and find the locker was “rubbery”. While it prevented unintended backing out, it really didn’t “lock” the parts.

Teflon tape will also make it easier for the parts to come loose. It’s not a “locker,” but just creates a seal to prevent air and liquid leaks. It will not prevent the BB from loosening.

I would try Loctite tape - https://www.amazon.com/Loctite-13726.../dp/B004B6T4KG. That may give you some additional thickness between the parts. I have never used it though.

Fine start to the day. Pulled my back and now laying on an ice pack.

Million dollar question - what am I going to do for three hours Sunday afternoon while my wife hosts a baby shower with thirty women attending?

I'll make sure they're greased when I add more tape!

Yeah, I added the tape with the idea of taking up space in the threads. I assume that's how it works to make your shower head threads watertight.

In other news, I destroyed one of my beautiful bamboo fenders this morning and I can't justify the replacement cost. Anyone have plastic fenders they love?

Sorry. The Vuelta should be on and it'll be too hot to go outside anyway. Got one of those microwaveable head packs and a foam roller?

It makes the shower head connection water tight by filling in the micro gaps between two parts, but it does not lock the threads. Quite the opposite really.

I shouldn’t be shocked by it, but I am. Doesn’t happen that often, thankfully.
How does that work if he'd riding where there are trees and power lines?

Its actually supposed to be really nice this weekend. ☹️

Was planning on riding three days and golfing with a friend on Sunday.

Have ice, heat, rollers, etc.

Need to harden up my abs.
