For the vintage BMX folks...

Went to the LBS, and saw no less than four ORIGINAL Schwinn The Sting and Sting Competitions sitting in a corner in their fillet brazed and anodized glory. Blew my mind, seeing as the only thing that was usually parked here was a Stranger Things repop.

Yes, they could use a bit of TLC - but pretty sure a few of these are NOS. Not everyday you see four in this condition lined up anywhere except a show.

What I know about BMX bikes is next to nothing. That said, I was recently given this bike...

It is a GT Bike Company and that is about all it has to offer for information...

Every thing looks to be original...

I am not sure if it is worth anything or even if it is vintage but thought that I would show it here, anyway. The cosmetics (paint) is a bit challenged but, other than that and in need of a new drive chain, it is in pretty good shape. Not sure what to do with it but it doesn't take up all that much space...

The GT is pretty modern for a BMX. Micro sized drive train with tiny sprocket. Integrated headset, gyro tabs on the side of the head tube. I think the white wall tires are making it look older than it is.

I admit that I also know very little about the BMX phenomenon. Do people collect them as curiosities, or do they ride them?

I was a kid when they were hot hot hot, and I had a low level one from Sears, but I guess prices are apparently nutso now. My cousin has a repro of some notable brand/model, but it was unclear to me whether he had it to ride, or just to have.

Wow, 4 of them just sitting there? Rare bikes indeed. Really neat. A friend of mine has a Sting King 24. Schwinn was capable of doing sooooo much, but was unable to execute.

Just sitting there. I believe the story is that the owner, a collector, died from COVID. The family brought the four there for the thing that we have a special subforum for, because so many people seem unable to check concluded auctions on eBay

Wish they'd put them in wheel stands; pretty sure whoever brought them there allowed a pedal to nick one of the DT decals

People ride them, others just display them. Either way, true vintage BMX values are through the roof. And realize there were some BMX 26'rs too. Lots of cross over from MTB to BMX as far as parts, particularly pedals.

The BMX crowd also loves 600 arabesque, first generation Dura Ace, and Sugino Maxy cranksets.

Please don't confuse ebay "asking" prices with "selling" prices. Many sellers never get their ask price. some are far from it. Value is determined once an item actually SELLS. Its easy enough to check SOLD prices.

very cool. I have scrambler but nothing as cool as these stings. Pretty neat the round S chromoly decal on the bars. Got one on my super sport. Hope they find good homes.

My own contribution to the mix - a Goodwill find, of all things - a basically all-original 1985 Mongoose Californian. It gave me a newfound appreciation for 1980's BMX.

That rear brake needs attention...
Wild, basically unused.

That later 60's Narc car in the background... 1968?

Unused. Like the Stings, basically NOS. I don't know what it is, but on the rare occasions I run into classic BMX stuff, it ALWAYS seems to be chrome.

That's a '68 Plymouth Satellite. Its story is here:

I love the video on so many levels. Great editing and camera work. Everything is cohesive like a professional show. I like the cars and your attitude that it doesn't need 2 doors and be numbers matching to be cool dive around and enjoy. Having driven a '61 Falcon for number of years, I'm with you.

Also good detective work on find the lifter problem and graphics to explain the issue. I may have to subscribe.
