FS: 1973 Raleigh Super Course

Seat tube 52cm (C-C), top tube 56cm (C-C), paint and chrome in good shape. Front derailleur and seat were replaced long ago by previous owner, who also added mirror and bar foam. Has not been ridden in about 35 years, so tires and tubes will need replaced. Will post pics soon. $200 $150 + shipping, or local pickup/short delivery in NE Ohio. Let me know if any questions or more detailed pics.

** SOLD **

Thanks.

That's in great shape considering it's nearly 50 years old! Glwts!

At one point, I had a Raleigh International, a Competition, and a SuperCourse, all with Capella lugs. I was on top of the world, ma!

Pardon my ignorance, are capella lugs more desirable than nervex professional? And if so, does it also translate over to those early 70s internationals?

I think part of the attraction of Capella "birds mouth" lugs is that they were less common and appeared for a shorter time than the Nervex lugs.
Some may prefer the aesthetics.
This information provided by rhm in a different post about those lugs.

[QUOTEThat's pretty much it.

To quibble with the details, Raleigh and Carlton were both bought up by a large conglomerate (TI) that had already bought up most of the other large bicycle manufacturers like Phillips and Hercules.

In the consolidation that followed, most of the factories closed. Raleigh and Carlton were the only ones TI left running. All the 531 frames were now made by Carlton. Beginning in the late 60's some Carlton bikes were badged Raleigh.

Carlton had a large supply of Capella lugs, left over from before the consolidation, probably made about 1959. I don't know why, but for some reason they decided to use them all up in the early 70's, and they appear on many 1973 Super Course, Competition, and International frames.][/QUOTE]

Thanks.
Seems your garage has an iron deficiency; selling would worsen the condition.
(I picked up a 71 Super Course this year)
