Sweet ride. The article on Sheldon Brown's site was written by BF member A. Winthrop, using information, I believe, he got from T-Mar. The Comp TA was, indeed, the predecessor of the Ironman. As far as I can tell, the switch from Tange 2 to Tange 1 was about the only significant change. I see someone swapped in a tricolor RD, and that is certainly an interesting stem. The Comp TA was a smooth frame, one of the first bikes I had that had a real nice glide to it.

As you can see, the similarities to the '85 Ironman are obvious.

The advertised top tube length on a 52cm, 1985 Ironman was 21"/533mm ctc. The 1985 model was advertised in imperial measurements but the available frame sizes were roughly 50, 52, 54, 56, 58, 60 and 64cm. As RT stated, they're center of BB to top of top tube.

According to the specs, the change to the 1985 Ironman also resulted in revised geometry with steeper angles and an increase in fork rake and wheelbase.

That pictured Ironman looks like the fork may be bent. The tire looks too close to the downtube.

Probably a combination of camera angle, turned front, and the larger tires... that's a Comp TA. Fork was OK, the man's been racing it in SC for a couple of years now. He's 6' 245 and a former NCAA tailback. I can't imagine lining up next to him at a crit.... He has moved to carbon, but kept the Comp TA. Former UNC tailback Ronnie McGill. Super nice guy.

This is like the step-child of an Ironman, no?

1992 (93?) DiamondBack Master tg

Paint is white with black splatter. Received for free as a frameset plus and threw on the best stuff I had that matched. Found a very decent 105 RD in the bin at the LBS. It is riding on another bike's wheels until I win the lottery.

I'd say pretty close. I've never figured out if the road D'backs that followed were more like the Ironman or the Lemans RS frames. I had an Expert TG and it was a very nice-riding bike. Some of those frames were really nice. The lower end models were tanks, but I'd like to ride one of those Master TG's to see how it feels.

No, I already have one Miami Vice bike (see below) and that's enough for right now. But I knew these bikes were of interest on here so thought to share. Thanks.

i dont know if they kept the tight geometry of the ironman frames vs lemans but the tubing is definitely high quality. in 1990 they went with Tange OS tubes

Here's mine (again) on Thanksgiving morning, the first ride of four over the holiday that yielded 211 miles on it (plus 40 on my Allez, for 251 miles total for the week):

Welcome to the forum. For that bike, you're well served to camp in this forum, too.
We'll either help you or lie convincingly. We are IRONMAN.

That '88 should be a Purple Haze (smoked fade). Might be red, I get confused.

Don't let anyone tell you it's a cult.
It's more than that, man.

It's cosmic.

Hi, haven't posted in a while, bike has been on the back burner for a bit while I was busy with life.

Just got a Concor Supercorsa Perforato in the mail the other day, and got it on my Miami Vice today. I like it a lot more than the Vetta that was on there before

I still need to clean her up (especially those hoods... if I can even get them white again) but that can wait until it's not 20 degrees outside

Sweet! A little bleach with some cleaner and rub, should bring them white again. Or you can get a set off ebay for about 30 to 40.. IMO, the bike deserves a set of clean hoods!!

I like it in a very weird way, except for the ugly wannabe brooks at a douchy angle.

The red Expert/Masters are the prettiest!

I dare to give advice, but we are all brothers here, as we all own Centurion Ironmans, with that said, IMO, the bike deserves a set of matched wheels/tires..
