2014 Felt AR vs 2022 Felt AR

Looking to buy upgrade my 2013 Felt F4 and found 2 used bikes and need a little help justifying which one to get.
option 1 2014 Felt AR $1500
vs
option 2 2021 Felt AR w/ Ultegra Di2 $5300

is there that much of a difference improvement btw these two to justify nearly $4k price difference?

I would post pics but I’m a newbie here and not allowed to by the powers who rule…

Which group set on the 2014? I had one w DA Di2 which was a great bike that served me well for many years, now on trainer duty

the back part say Dura-ace, the front part says Ultegra 11S. The shifter says dura-ace

The 2021 bike has electronic shifting, aero carbon wheels (tubeless ready), disc brakes and clearance for 30mm tires.

I have no idea what the 2014 bike has, but I'm assuming it's rim brake, mechanical shifting and more limited tire clearance. May or may not have carbon wheels.

Only you can decide if these things are "worth it" or not, but from my perspective a nearly new carbon aero race bike with carbon wheels and Di2 for $5300 is a pretty good deal. This bike is at least $7500 MSRP, and also likely hard to find.

One short note---assuming both are in decent shape and fit you .... the older bike probably has a lot more miles on every part. The nearly new bike is probably nearly new.

If I was in the market for a new bike, I definitely wouldn't look at almost an even replacement ... I would go for the upgrade. You have nearly ten years on your current Felt, and you want to replace it with a bike just about as old? I don't see the logic ....

On the other hand, that 2021 Felt should be a great bike for the next ten years, and it has all the stuff you will want once you figure out how to use it ... and you will be glad you have it.

Not only is the running gear up-to-date and very high quality, not only is the bike more versatile, it also has all the engineering upgrades felt made over the last decade .... so it likely works better in every way that either your 2013 and the 2014 model.

I'd say the newer bike is certainly $4000 better than the old one .... if you have the budget for it. Otherwise, I would just put the old one into showroom shape and keep riding it.

My question is do you really want a full-on aero race bike .... if you do .... well, I envy you your options.

2021 AR by a mile. Yeah a 2014 might not be that much slower if at all, but I am assuming these are preowned bikes. Assuming they are both in equal shape, I would also assume that the 2014 has a lot more miles on it. Yeah $5300 is a big chunk of change but this was also a $7000 bike. Really this is a bike that has pretty much all the latest and greatest and could last as long as your 2013 F4. The one caveat is the new AR even with Di2 Ultegra is pretty heavy even for an Aero bike at 18.2lbs. I recently switched from an all-around climbing race bike Canyon Ultimate SL 8.0 Disc that weighed maybe 16.25lbs w/ some Hunt wheels to a Scott Foil RC 20 that weighed 18.2lbs stock and the 2lbs of weight IMO was pretty jarring at first. It took me thousands to weight weenie the Scott Foil down to 16.75lbs when you don't count the pedals, sensors, computer mount, cages, ect.

Don't take this as astroturfing but frankly if $5300 is your budget and you wanted a modern aero bike I would just go custom. My first option would be a Winspace T1500 Disc but if you are a rim brake holdout Winspace still makes a rim version. You could easily build a T1500 Disc with some of the Hyper wheels and Rival/Force or whatever Shimano equivalent for $5300. If you don't believe I am not astroturfing you I would suggest an Allez Sprint or even a Aethos. The Aethos is probably closer to a $6+ build unless you want to go mechanical.
