Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

On sections of the downhill we were both coasting and it was amazing how far he got ahead of me. I don't get it.
Well done. The weather the last week north of Atlanta has been very moderate. Great riding weather for this time of year. Since no one else has asked; how is the leg post-mauling?

why you gotta be like that?

the 200 mile mark for the week is much more of a motivator than the leader board, and who could begrudge someone "sneaking" in a 70-miler?

My ride was pretty fun - I'll probably do it again next year (early bird price, I hope), just to get in an annual century and because it's the only organized ride that I've done (which, admittedly, hasn't been that many) where I could pick and choose from a few 25+ mph groups. Hell, this may have actually gotten me off the fence in terms of looking for group rides to join - I like riding solo to clear the mind, but moving at a good clip at damn near a recovery HR is fun.

Be nice now. Actually people are always nice. They generally won't tell you that you suck, they only tell you if they like it. That's what I do. This song has been going over great in bars. I think it hooks pretty hard. Trying to write pop songs with the great melody hooks. You write a good enough melody that hooks and they lyrics could be nazi marching lyrics, people would still love it. Regardless if somebody tells me I suck, my response would be 'tell me something I don't know arsehole.'

Angelina - words and music © Pcad Songs 2017

I hear you’re trying to make a new start Angelina
I guess that means you broke a new heart Angelina
Did you let him down easy
I don’t recall you doing that for me
You said I was too needy
That’s the blow off line that you used when you cut me free

New men might sell their souls for you Angelina
I take it nothing less would ever do Angelina
Girl I think it’s time you come down
Back here on earth with me where you belong
And maybe when I come back round
This could be our make up pillow talk song

(Bridge) Angelina I know you think that now
You’re in your prime
Oh but Angelina I’m afraid our love
Is running out of time
Out of time

I hear you’re trying to make a new start Angelina
What if I got other plans for your heart Angelina
Would you throw me a life vest
You might just find the one it saves is you
You think that you know what’s best
But way deep down my love you can feel it too
You feel it too
Babe I know you do

I love you girl and we’re not through Angelina
We both know I’m the only man for you Angelina
Angelina Angelina
Not what I expected. I expected some banal, plastic melody like I hear every time I turn on the radio. And the lyrics are equally plastic. This actually has some substancecto it. Reminds me of something Dan Fogelsberg-esque. I think, if you really want to make it a hit, you should move closer to the plastic sound.

I'll second rpen's question about the deteriorating quality of party bands.

My wife would begrudge me sneaking in a 4 hour ride today. Set my alarm for 5 am but ended up sleeping in and just watched the MotoGP race, so now I prob can only get 30 in. Oh well!

Then the volume gradually increases to the skull ******* level, and the music becomes one long twangy guitar riff after another. Conversation becomes impossible, and people's eyes start to glaze over with the unasked question, "When is this torture ever going to end."

Does the band just get as drunk as we do? At least the music provides a good excuse to leave the party early.
Easy answer. They're trying to get your* stiff, wall-flower arses to dance.

* not you of course, I KNOW you're dancing, but the other stiffs.

Maybe so, but for me that is the wrong way to go about it. When the volume gets to a certain level, I just zone out and withdraw. I can't stand loud music. And who dances to twangy guitar riffs?

I saw a buck in the tall grass on the mup ride. It was in a burb-ish area, but still pretty surprising, given what it'd have to traverse to get there.

I'm wanting to know how long I have to wait to know if I got rabies.

Incidentally, the guy I rode with yesterday did a century ride on the Silver Comet a couple weeks ago.

Weren't there any fast riders in the Minnesota Minor? Maybe there will be more in the Grungy Gravel Fest.
