Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

In the astro world the MEILENSTEIN of planetary eyelenses does happen to be a Pentax, BTW. The 5.1mm XO... which was developed specifically for the Mars opposition in 2003. I have one, it's great. Only problem is it's only available in 2 focal lengths, and one of those is useless (2.5mm). That and the AFOV is like 42 deg, so it's like looking through a soda straw.

There are zeiss lenses out there that are getting that way, but not from a performance standpoint. The german zeiss factory shut down, and the astro guys there are all retired now. So there will be no more zeiss eyepieces ever, and they're getting damn expensive for collectors. I think I missed that boat. The pentax XO preforms a whole lot better though, and is also unobtanium (haven't been produced since the tsunami wiped out the pentax plant), so in a few years they'll both be $$$$.

Unlike camera lenses, the MEILENSTEIN astro stuff only comes out on special occasions. If the sky sucks (transparency and seeing) like it did last night, all the glass in the world ain't gonna make Jupiter look like much more than mush.

What about just "sidewall blowout protection" in fast, nice tires?

I really do think that something that looks unusual, might make someone break their concentration for a fraction of a second, and, that might help someday.

Buy nice fast tires and don't run over sharp objects.

Yep, like Dan 333 said, just gotta put the URL between some IMG tags.

You can do Strava pics too, but it's a little more complicated.

I know what you mean, though. That Pentax I was talking about was designed for certain color clarity/contrast when looking at only a single subject out of the entire sky (mars). Can you imagine designing a camera lens to take a picture of a single flower? That's the kind of over the top insanity that gives me the soft spot for Pentax.

Well actually, if you read Dans post it says nothing about pasting the link between IMG code tags. Hence the problem with the link just being a link, rather than a pic.
