I believe that the 1990 KOM S7 was made in Japan.

Thank you! I know nothing of that era Schwinn MTBs and that one is up for sale near me...

I would get to it, I know these are mentioned from time to time and it seems like they are a big deal. Anything this early with something like the curved stays has to be a big deal whether it was a good idea or not.

In other words I have no real idea if these are THAT big of a deal or Paramount adjacent but it should be well worth looking into.

Offer has been offered and I think accepted. We shall see.

I really don't need another bike but this seems pretty unique. I'll just have to offload a few items.

Not at all. I like Japanese frames, even though I have a made-in-Italy Bianchi and a made-in-USA Schwinn. (1988 and 1989 Project KOM-10 (red, white, and blue complete bicycle) and -20 (bare frameset) were made in Greenville MS, using Japanese tubing. These succeeded the 1987 Paramountain. Someone told me the frame geometry is almost identical to that of a high-end Panasonic model of the same vintage.) If the Japanese version is as good as mine, I recommend it highly. I do not know how the curly stays impact ride quality, although of course the Hetchins crowd swears by them.

KOM-10 pictured is not mine, which I have posted elsewhere. The main difference is that mine takes a U-brake or RollerCam up front, whereas all of the others I have seen take conventional cantilever brakes in front.

@merziac strong arm tactics and the literature provided by @chainstay -which filled in the blanks for lack of drive side pictures -sucked me in.

Well, and fear of Gugie burning me at the stake like an Ore-ida crisper...

If the gentleman doesn’t run out of patience waiting until Friday, I will pick up another cool, but probably N + too many, bike...

You're just trying to make me lose the scent of a green metal thing from circa 1964 or something...

It's a good call. I guess those had the original Deore DX transitional parts? Looking forward to seeing if those are still on there.

Now if someone can provide a home for that KHS chrome frame, I'd consider it an even swap out. I am sure I will have a reckoning with myself this summer.

My '91 Impact Pro has those stays. Can't say I notice anything different in particular about how it rides, but it's a conversation starter.

I have to admit I'm a little bit disappointed. When I read the title I was hoping to see something like this:

I bought one of those new in 1990 and still ride it. Makes me a little sad to see that it's only worth a hundred dollars. I guess I'll never sell it.

Darn that Merziac...

After listening to my west coast enabler, I adopted Karla Kom the Schwinn. Glad I did. Very cool. Seat post issue but very neat little Schwinn. Not a Schwinn owner keeper until this one.

Odd tapered and stuck seat post. Looks like a concor seat...

Front derailleur cable pulley

Deore crank, FD, RD, AND pedals.

Is the SR seatpost hard anodized and tapered (thicker at seat tube level), and thinner as it gets to the saddle cradle area).

So...first thoughts. It will have to find its pace on line on the queue.
1. Rides nice; other than the seatpost, seems well taken care of. Might be a wee bit on the small side for me unfortunately, but I am not sure yet.
2. Might have to replace stem/seatpost saddle and rapid fire shifters, which I have always disliked. Depends on how much stem is in the steerer, and whether the 7 speed Shimano thumbies I think I have will play nice.
3. It is light for steel.
4. Was thinking about dirt drop, but might be a little small for it. I'd have to really do well with a stem.
5. Surprisingly few scratches and nicks. Will be beautiful without a stuck post and with a polish and wax.
6. Deore DX is underrated good stuff.
