Hwy 74 (Ortega Highway) near Antonio Pkwy
Hello all,
Not sure if anyone has noticed the signs prohibiting bicycles along Hwy 74 through the construction project near Antonio Pkwy in San Juan Capistrano, but they are there. Bicycles are allowed there, legally they cannot prohibit them. Now, I actually talked with the bicycle coordinator in Sacramento, and the one in D12, they both agree, the signs must come down. The project in question is NOT a Caltrans project, but a County one, though on a State highway. So, hopefully, the signs will come down. It does pay to actually call when you see something wrong! I'll post more when I get more updates.

Thanks Mike!
We rode through there last weekend and pretty much ignored the signs and didn't get any trouble from the local authorities. There was one section that was a bit tight (just after turning off Antonio), but cars were able to pass us.

I'm just waiting for an update from Caltrans. If they come down, it would have been because Caltrans asked. I wasn't even riding through there, driving actually. I just don't want to see a precedent set, and cause problems elsewhere.

I didn't get a date from them, but the NO BICYCLES signs WILL COME DOWN! Victory! "Share the Road" signs are going to be put in place. Thank you Caltrans! So, keep riding!
