Apocalypse BrakePad
I need some Shimano L03A or compatible pads, (preferably at a price less than what you pay for a whole caliper with the same pad inside it). These appear to be unobtainium. If I am not mistaken, these are what all the 105, Ultegra and Dura Ace flat-mount calipers use, so unavailability must be universally problematic.
If anyone can point me to a source, I would be very grateful. Many thanks in advance.

A Google search turned up several sources with these pads in stock, including Amazon. They aren't real cheap but not absurdly expensive

....sweet. It's not as good as those tornado rods that Burt Lancaster was selling in "The Rainmaker", but it looks like you can probably wet down the roof if you can maintain water and pressure. Can you still get fire insurance, or did they price it beyond all rational possibility of mere mortals being insured ? If you want to spend some real money, buy yourself a 3.000 gallon water tank, and either elevate it, or hook up a gas driven high pressure pump to the outflow.
Then you've got yourself a fixed position fire engine, right on the property. Scrounge up some surplus, surveyed fire hose from some department that was buying new stuff, a Y outlet, and a couple of nozzles, and you can wear your own fire chief's hat to the fire.

...thank you. Weirdly enough, the stuff I seem to need keeps on showing up. This is the benefit of keeping your needs simple, and your wants few. If I had dicks breaks, it would cut sharply into my budget allowance for hookers and blow.

I've burned through probably several hundred dollars worth of pads over the years at $20/pr, which I thought was bad enough.
I found these sold on Amazon, so I ordered one pair just to see if they are any good:

I just randomly searched for L03A's on Amazon early this week and some random shop had them in stock for 28 bucks a pack. I got four packs and got them delivered today.
Within a half hour after making my order the shop that had them was out of stock and the posted price was back up to 130 or so. Just dumb luck.

Is there a good resource for pad compatibility? I know like in the case of the B01S, there is a supersession, and have been able to find those instead...

Wow, seeing that $89 price on those pads is crazy. I just checked one of our wholesale vendors's site, the pads have an eta later this month and it looks like the retail price shouldn't be any more than $25-$30 per pair with normal markup at a small retailer, such as a bike shop.

These are perfectly adequate, FWIW.

You could also look into truckerco brake pads. They're organic pads are $11/pair and metallics are $14. Also you can get discounts for ordering multiple sets.

I just balked at paying $89 each for some seriously cool Magura hydraulic v-brakes. Levers, calipers, pads and 'Royal Blood' brake fluid all included. Seemed a bit too extravagant for a $1000 tandem upgrade. So I bought some compressionless brake housing at $2/ft x 8' to see if that can firm up the feel of things, mainly at the rear end. Anyone that can justify spending $89 just on pads is in the 5%, if not the 1%. And that is why we are in the mess we're in. We are not all equally yoked.

Due to sourcing issues my shop started carrying some MTX pads: https://mtxbraking.com/product/red-label-brake-pads/ . They have the pad shape you need in stock. They do seem a bit nicer than most 3rd party pads. The ceramic compound feels a little like a mix between metallic and organic--almost as much power as metallic, but with better modulation and less noise. They are rather pricy though.

If one wants to play in the big leagues, one needs a big budget. My son has found this to be true with his hydro brakes needing a bleed and pad replacement after less than a full season. Meanwhile the canti pads on his cross bike used for commuting and gravel riding are 4 seasons old and still working fine.
