Also, a "shattered" knee sensation isn't really descriptive from a diagnostic perspective. I doubt that the OP has actually felt a shattered knee, or else he would have fallen from the bike in agony.

Yeah, and coupled with this statement made by the OP....
I place my left knee on the floor while stopping and starting.
I have to wonder what they are even talking about?

How does one put a knee on the floor while stopping or starting? Or are they saying they are doing a stretching exercise for their left knee prior to and post ride?

Possibly English isn't their native language and there are nuances in the translation being missed and taken the wrong way?

Bike fit required and visit to ortho to see what knee issues you have.

I don't know that I'd call it a troll post, but just another "newbie starts a thread at Bike Forums looking for advice but never returns." Seems like that happens a lot for some reason or another.

I read that as suggesting they put their left leg/foot down when stopping????

Hmmm.

I can see that now. That will seem to favor that the English isn't the OP's native tongue and they are using a translator.

However will their problem now be a "shattered" foot instead of knee?

I’ll wager that you had it right in this one. Too much hard work on the front of the knees despite (reportedly) having things in the right relationships, plus complaining of creaking (possibly older?) knees means to me that the poster is trying to push too hard (high) of a gear a lot.

I'm a platform pedal guy, but I think this is complete bs. There's no connection between pedal type and knee problems, you're just making that up.

Every time somebody mentions knee pain or knee problems on these forums, 99% of the time that person also happens to be using clipless pedals. Plenty of cyclists also had to have knee surgeries or complete knee replacements. I suspect clipless pedals to be the culprit

Well, as long as YOU suspect it, there must be something there. That's sarcasm, by the way. You've committed more logical fallacies in that short post than I thought possible.

Nice fake statistic, by the way. Document that 99% figure, I dare you.

You do understand that people often take up biking because they have knee problems and find other aerobic activities too painful, right? So by your logic, when those people need knee surgery later, their pedals caused it?

Bicycling as an aerobic activity is attractive to older people, people with joint problems, and overweight people. Guess what groups are going to be more prone to needing knee surgeries.

I'm not a fan of clipless pedals, but I'm really annoyed with people making stuff up to talk other people out of liking what they like.

Two pages and the OP hasn't returned and in the meantime this has turned into a platform vs. clipless pedal debate without any mention of the type of pedals the OP is using. BF never disappoints.

I can see clipless pedals causing or exacerbating knee issues. They generally fix the alignment of the foot (with some having more or less float than others) and therefore, the alignment up the leg to the knee and hip. That can lead to torque due to angle limitations. Whereas a platform allows one to freely place and move the foot without a rigid connection between the foot and pedal. Rider feels pressure so realigns their foot, in/out/front/back/left/right/ or two or three or four degrees in some direction and potentially different for the left foot and right foot. Clipless are much more limiting in those accommodations.

Now ALL KNEE problems - probably not.

I presume that the OP will have had a full knee replacement and fully healed when this discussion finally ends!

What's your cadence? Maybe your problem is simply pushing a big gear at a low rpm. That's known to cause knee issues, unlike clipless pedals (30 years and counting.)

The big question is, will we ever hear from OP again?

I second this, but would also recommend a sports chiro. They do a lot that doesn’t have to do with spine and neck.
For example, I have nerve impingement in an elbow and they can relieve that much easier and cheaper than an Ortho would.

Huh ?

If using clipless, consider cleats with float. But could be many other causes.

Not buying it unless someone comes up with data. I've had too many clipless advocates argue that platforms cause problems by allowing incorrect foot placement (complete rubbish) for me to buy "I can see..." as a legitimate kind of proof. I think it would be obvious that the clipless alignment was causing you problems long before any actual damage was done.
