ToC surprises

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The big names always amaze me, but guys like Brad White (OUCH p/b Maxxis) put elite racing into perspective for me. The guy was a cat2 last year after racing just a few years. Maybe he has some history in another sport? Don't know, but to mix it up, create and work a break for an entire stage given the caliber of riders involved is quite inspiring and fun to watch.

Both are focused on the Tour and aren't anywhere near their top form. ToC is a training race for them - a way to get in some miles, maybe test some new gear.

Another BIG surprised for me has been that there has not been many many BF posts and threads posting pictures of people that have been watching the race. Come on, post them up!!!

What happened to Basso yesterday in the TT? He was supposed to go in the final 8 or 10 riders, but when it came his turn he did not start. They mentioned it on Versus, then never said anything else about it.

Dave Z was freaking awesome yesterday too.

It sure must be! Year after year, I'd listen to Dick Ring announce the live action at the Fitchburg MA 4th of July Crit. After about the 5th or 6th year, you got to learn his standard catch phrases, like him yelling at the fans not to be "rubbernecking out in the road" and getting in the way of the field sprint.

i think armstrong's main focus right now is the giro. since he ha never even ridden it. and the giro promotors seem to be so pro lance. the tour would just be icing on the cake. astana can definitely sweep the podium at the tour this year.

Now that makes sense...Armstrong is racing great right now, which puts him on a whole different peak-curve than the other guys in the race who are focussed on the TdF.

I recall lots of commentary over the years about this rider or that who was dusting the aces in the early season classics and was "looking to be a contender" for the TdF...then come July they'd crack early and wind up dragging down the end of the pack.

But if Armstrong is timing his peak for the Giro, is he going to have to fight Contador for it?

I have to join the group that just doesn't get her. I guess it is just a way to get a good looking girl some screen time, but frankly I find her attempts at humor so painful, I hadn't noticed she was good looking.

Pretty much. But who cares?

You know what's worse? That idiot kid who replaced Al Trautwig, who whatever you thought of him, was a consummate sportscasting pro. This new kid really, really, REALLY sucks. Man he is friggin brutal. Put me up there, I'd be a star.

Him and the Indian girl are probably married. I can't imagine being their neigbor.

--Craig Hummer sucks as a broadcaster. This needs to be changed immediately to EventServices and me in the booth with Phil and Paul!

--The Indian chick is neither entertaining nor hot...gotta go.

--The biggest thing about the ToC to me has been being able to see all the names back into the game that I used to love to follow-Armstrong, Landis, Basso, Hamilton.

Now the season is here and it is off to Paris-Nice next. If only it would warm up around here so I could ride out there myself again.

What's up with Hummer anyways? he's really looking bad, almost sickly looking even. Guess being an announcer for WEC has caught up to him...

and yeah that girl really sucks! and not in the right way.

Yep. Astana has already made the decision to support Lance in an effort to win the Giro. At this time, there is no reason to believe that Lance will try to win the TDF as well.
