Centaur vs. Rival.....Help me choose!
#26
Has coddling tendencies.
The mistake was stating your opinion so definitively with so little experience. Campy guy for life huh? Have you actually tried SRAM? Also you have Record 11 so not really relevant for a Centaur vs. Rival discussion. Anyway, the bottom line is that your recent post is too fresh in people's minds for you to be taken seriously...

Does your grandmother know you're putting your bike on her couch?

I come from an italian family and even my grandparents don't use the plastic covers anymore
p.s. they do keep the couch clean from grease on the bike though.

I didn't read all the posts, so this may have already been mentioned... I've seen a lot of SRAM owners buying Shimano cassettes/chains/cables to make their setup shift better....
I just got a new bike with Campy (after almost going with SRAM) and couldn't be happier....
YMMV

That's an easy one. Even with the poor exchange rates, Ribble has Centaur carbon shifters for $188, after you deduct the 15% VAT tax. Chorus 11 speed shifters are only $233 and Record 11 are only $275.

Just noticed Shiny has Red groups for £1028.26

At the time of purchase, Rival shifters are NOT more expensive than Centaur. Do you mean over the long haul because you can rebuild Campag?
My 2cents - I loved my Centaur about 4 years ago, but have not ridden the newer stuff. If you have no problem with thumb shifting, Campagnolo certainly make nice groups. I switched to Ultegra through a new bike purchase and never liked it. It does shift smoothly, but it was always out of tune. I was constantly re-aligning my rear derailleur. I switched to Rival and love it. I even wrote a review here. The only downside to Rival vs. Ultegra is that Rival's front shifting is a bit long in the throw.
BTW - I just bought a CAAD9 and put that old Ultegra group on it. If I continue to have problems, I will probably talk the wife into buying another Rival setup. I'd love to try Centaur, but it's a more expensive initial investment.

I just bought my Gary Fisher CX bike in May and it came with Rival. Unfortunately this is my first road bike so I have nothing else to compare it to. So far I can say that the group is lightweight, shifts accurately "most" of the time. Sometimes while shifting into an easier gear it will jump up and then back down, but it isn't very often. I was really thinking of switching to Campy next year just to try it. I have heard little complaints in the Campy dept. and let's face it, they have a long reputable past. Not saying they are the best, or better than something else. But I might find it to be more to my liking. The price on a Chorus group is definitely out of my price range for now.

I have all the Campy gruppos. I don't even want to try anything else. I found the Shimano easy to break and, in 1/2 century of riding, I have yet to break my first Campy part. I've never even seen an Sram. Easy decision for me.

I have the new 10s Centaur on one of my bikes - it's the finest group I've ridden so far. In my mind, though, all the magic Campy has is in their shifters. Once you've had the ability to go up and down the cassette in multiples with an index button or lever push, all other groups look really, really weak. I'll hand it to SRAM, though - they give Shimano a run for their money: they did it with MTB components, and now they do it with road, too. SRAM is cheap & light.
Looking at the prices for Campy shifters on Ribble, I've gotta say, if you're in a situation to change shifters (cross bike) and not much else, it's a hell of a deal.
