Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Swedish meatballs tonight. Plenty of prep, but I decided, for some dumb reason, to try my hand at making the dinner rolls from scratch, too. Dough is currently going through the first proofing.

I know we are not supposed to talk about other threads here, but something funny happened to the VPN thread. It was an old one that got bumped by possible shills, and instead of being locked looks like it was un-bumped. What's the opposite of bumped?

How cool is that??

BTW if I disappear for awhile, you will know why.

I remember pining for a reel-to-reel in order to lengthen listening time capabilities. Sadly, by the time I acquired one the iPod had made them essentially obsolete.

Anyone interested in a C&V RTR?

Someone would buy it. Some are over the moon about reel-to-reel - supposedly one of the best sounding playback formats available, but I've neither listened to, nor even seen one in the flesh.

Recording ones and zeros to vinyl you can store a LOT more than that on a record, and would probably choose a very low RPM so more data can be stored.

As for how many MBs of music you end up with when encoding to 16/44.1...

That resolution results in approx 10 mega per minute, so let's say 450 megs worth of music with a high dynamic range. You can squeeze a little more music on a record but quality begins to suffer.

When your community band performs a concert, is the music chosen so there is a flow to the set, or do you just randomly select 3, 4, or 5 songs that are disjointed from one another and awkwardly transition?
You are correct I have never bought any music for the album cover. It's purely an audio play.

As for the band concerts, good question--I've wondered it myself. Sometimes there's a clear theme (one time we had a "western" concert), but often it seems we just follow a formula of a couple marches + a couple movie/musical themes + etc. and randomly pick songs to fit the genre.

When I was a wee lad, and we lived in Rochester, Dad sang with the Rochester Oratorio Society. He had one tape from a performance, I don't even know of what, because we didn't have a tape deck. I think he borrowed one from a friend, once, when I was a yute.

I'd love to see the big one go to a good home. I actually have two, the smaller one I literally rescued from a curbside pile of trash waiting for the garbage truck. It was missing the power chord, but I fashioned one and cleaned her up and she worked perfectly.

Plus, sometimes the vinyl comes in pretty colors!

That would be great if my phone had a microSD slot

What is the big one? I have a friend in Pittsburgh who is a big audio geek, and he may be interested or know someone.

It has a sim card and a Micro SD slot. They were even available with dual sim, but I think ours are just single sim. Moto G6, we got a couple of them when they had a BOGO sale - buy one for $229, get another one free.

If I still lived in NYC, I'd probably be able to find it a home. I'm pretty sure that my friend, a speaker maker based in Brooklyn, has one - I think I've seen it in his YouTube channel. He would likely know others that might be interested.

I gotta find the chord and check the working condition.

Oof! Over 40 lbs I think.

Full disclosure: If it still works well and sounds sweet I may not want to let it go.
