Best Clear Protective Film/Tape

After my summer riding season, I've noticed some small chips on my chain stay. I'm going to treat it with some Rust-Oleum flat black paint. However, I'd like to protect it in the future (and other chip-prone areas of the frame). Any suggestions for a clear tape/film to protect the frame? I've heard of helicopter tape, but does anyone have personal experience? Any suggestions for specific brands? Many thanks!

I just used black electrical tape. Yes it is not clear, but it works. In my case no paint to protect, but I did not want dings in the titanium.

This bike has paint to protect. Used the same type of tape on this bike too.

Clear shelf lining - cheap and does the job, easy to cut to size.

Most on eBay or Amazon works fine. If you know anyone who cuts or prints on vinyl, they throw away scraps bigger than you need. 3M makes a bunch of shiny & matte finish - mine says Controltac on back. None likely to hurt your paint but I remove in winter & replace with new when cleaning.

Not on my bikes, but on my GPS screens as screen protectors, I have used thick clear packing tape. Roll is about two inches wide. I think it was Office Depot brand.
