Classic British Bicycles (200 makers mapped!)

Ciao everybody!
I am excited to share the completion of my research and art project on the Classic British bicycles poster map. Through online resources and consultations with local collectors and enthusiasts, I was able to discover and re-design the logos of over 200 producers.

The journey was both fun and educational, as I learned about the size and scope of the bicycle industry in cities like London and Birmingham. I also made a special effort to map local frame builders in remote areas of Scotland and Northern Ireland, despite the difficulties in obtaining information. These brands may not be as well-known as their Italian counterparts, but I am confident that they were exported to nearby countries and the US.

Do any of these brands hold a special place in your collection?
Limited and numbered print copies of the map are available for purchase at

Great to see this map and listing of the british bike makers.
I also love the other versions, especially the italian.
Can you make a similar post with the italian again? adding the text listing?
Thx

That looks great. I didn't think much of British bikes until about six years ago when my wife brought home a late 70's Raleigh Super Course. Now I own a 68 Raleigh Super Course, a 71 Raleigh International and an early 80's Bob Jackson. Thanks for putting this together.

I didn't see the very rare "Southern cycles"!
Very few know about this company with Stan Butcher.

That is very nicely done and needs to go on my list of items for the bike cave.

At risk of turning this into a thread of obscure British builders not on the list, I'll include mine. F.H. Scott in Ealing. built and sold bikes in the 30's thru 60's

A risk one day, may turn out to be an opportunity, the next.

Cool project. Speedwell doesn't appear on either list. One of the few companies that made titanium bikes in the 1970s. Birmingham I think - these bikes were definitely exported to the US. My 1978 Speedwell was a special order and a very cool bike.

Speedwells are way cool, but like Malvern Star, they are Australian.

Oooh, yeah, that's a bit of a miss. There appears to be a bit of a bias towards racing bikes, so maybe Pashley got the chop?

That's not being critical of Andrea's work, which is fantastic.

A very cool thing and I would have ordered one, already. Alas, I will not be able to get one given the limited payment options available.

Is there something wrong with a MasterCard?

Pretty darn good. They are on what appears to be good paper. The paper is glossy, which helps in cleaning the drool off of them. They come folded (sort of like a road map), not rolled, so there are creases. Not a big deal to me; it may be to some people.

Great idea and looks to be beautifully executed! I'm very tempted.
