I enjoy them, but a lot of the ones on training he covers multiple journal articles and it becomes too much like work. I don't mean that it's too much work to follow. I mean, it's too much like MY work, the stuff they pay me for.

Can totally relate. Used to do a fair amount research to put together presentations and articles. I didn’t mind the research so much, but when it came time to writing, it just seemed like redundant work. Now I’m a full time slacker, so time is not an issue, except when people or tasks intrude on my sacred cycling time.

I only use Strava to track my mileage so I would know when to wax my chains.

I will never set a KOM unless I buy a private property on which no one else has ever cycled with Strava.

Well maybe 'til now when some KOM hunter will feverishly search for all these amazing segments and start booking flights to get 'em all...

Or create your own segment in a place so obscure you can KOM it and hold onto it for a little while.

Thought I would be smart and created my own segment, but when it appeared, so many hot shots and previously bombed that route that I didn’t stand a chance. After all, how many people can actually sustain 35 MPH over a mile unless they are driving? Not to many pros out here.

Havnt figured out how to load segments into my garmin. Not that I care enough to actually take the time to figure it out.

I know where most of the segments are in my area. We have a lot of strong cyclist here, races here, and fast group rides. 99 percent of these segments were taken on group rides, and would be physically impossible for me to take them solo.

I do wish strava could differentiate between group ride efforts and solo efforts, but at the end of the day WGAF.

I use Strava more for the social aspect of seeing my friend's rides and also some of the bunch rides are posted into the clubs.

I'm a paying subscriber, but I am starting to wonder if it is really worth paying for over the "free" version. I'm not sure what additional value I am getting.

We have quite a few segments like that around here, including some that were part of the Tour of California. Not likely to get those KOM’s anytime soon.

I have seen suggestions on BF to draft an SUV driven by a partner; alas, I do not have the bike handling skills, nor do I trust my wife's driving to that extent.

Yeah, I'm also stuck in the same boat. National park close-by where I ride is full of pros and semi-pros training for their world tour races due to the quality of the roads. Us - mere humans - are not even close to their KOMs.

It does make you realize how big of a ''gap'' there is in segment time between an advanced amateur cyclist and a pro / semi-pro though. It is insane.

I use Strava and love chasing segments.
I know nearly everyone who rides in my area and love getting an email from Strava telling me someone just took my 'local legend' title away or beating my KOM/CR.
We often tease each other in the Strava comments as well.
Then summer comes and we get lots of vacationers...I live next to lake Ontario in the Thousand Islands area of NY...and some of them take away these records as well and I've made a few new friends from these vacationers because of Strava and its segments.

Speaking of which, today I remembered a tenth of a mile climb which is off the beaten path. I rode it 2 years ago which starts at 14% and mellows out to 11%. Its short but takes me anerobic going full gas. 6lbs overweight I managed a second fastest overall, not just in my age group. Even losing the pounds and training hard there is no way of taking away the KOM. There were two friendly horses at the top which came over to stare at the stupid gasping human.
