Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

If rack mount points are important to you then get the Checkpoint. Otherwise, get the Domane. I have a 2021 Domane SLR7 and it's basically everything I could want in a bike. I'd like the ability to mount racks but not so much I wanted the Checkpoint. The 38mm tire clearance made the 2020+ Domanes more than capable enough on the light off-road riding I've actually done and a large saddle bag is a good-enough substitute for racks and panniers.

This bicycle will not require racks nor fender flaps. 32c is the widest I plan to go, but I do understand that 32c in one brand isn't the same with another brand. Color options could be better... ugh Trek.

Agree - I also have both. I only added the Checkpoint when the gravel ratio and degree of difficulty started to rise.

Domane then. Use the Trek website. Goto the shops link. Then see what’s in stock and how far your willing to drive. I see more 56cm size in my area of Virginia.

If you don’t like the color at least you can test ride for size. If you can swing the price ask about a Project 1. Last year I read they were delivered quicker.

that is the color I was originally going for when I ordered my SL7, but the ship date kept going backwards so I went Project 1 instead. That SL7 came in 9 months after I got my P1.

Maybe Trek is using leftovers from 2021 SL7s to make the 2022 SL6?
If OP however can only get the 2021 SL6 colors, then I'd agree, not wild about either color, neither the matte black, nor especially this one:

The 2021 color option of black on black are actually what I am after. The newer choices for '22 just isn't my cup of soup.

Stealth Domane on a wet day.

The purple frame should have Trek in a slightly darker shade of purple.

I'd prefer to have no logo, but if I must, a dark matte non reflective logo is what I'd op for in another color IF black on black was not an option.

I saw a video where a guy changed his Trek logo on the down tube to gold with a sticker. The new letters looked a mm larger. Could do that with a color of choice. As for the matt black. My Madone was matt black. Held up a lot better than I thought it would. My other preference is red.

The Trek Domane is a great bike. I haven't had any problem with my bottom bracket but since I love upgrades I just picked up a Hambini T47 bottom bracket. Just came in the mail 30 minutes ago.

Since I have purchased my bike I have upgraded the cassette to Dura Ace, installed Dura Ace pedals, went from mechanical to electronic Di2 and bought Aeolus RSL 37's wheels. As soon as I can find Dura Ace 9200 then that will go on next. This bike is a keeper for me. Below is my bike with Stan's Crest carbon 650 wheels with 42 mm tires and XTR discs.

Are the ordering options as I see them or is there some wiggle room to change things out? IE. Handlebar widths are not all available in every frame size option.

That would be a P1 option only, unless your LBS will work with you. I was looking at changing several items and would have had to sell some items that came original with the bike. With the P1, I picked the exact part I wanted for the whole bike.
I like FSA carbon bars and stems and if I had stayed with the SL7, I would have gone with them and had to sell the Bontrager stuff.

good to know, thank you.

I may end up P1 just to net the configuration & then by default, obtain the color of choice (even though 2021 has the color in my choice within a non P1 selection). Stip is, I don't come across the size & color already available with just some hangons that I'd change later.
The P1 doesn't show a cog-cassette selection, but I wouldn't expect that finite capability from TREK.

The P1 tool online does not show all the options that the actual order process has. One of the options is the cassette, which you have the ability to choose the Cassette of your choice. It comes stock with an 11-34, which in Florida is useless, but the 11-28 I wanted was not in stock at the time, so if I had waited for the 11-28, it would delay the shipping 90 days, so I stuck with the 11-34 and the bike shipped in 3 days. I put a 11-28 I had from another bike on it and sold the 11-34. I eventually went back to the 14-28 or 12-25 cassette options that I like to run since it is so flat here and got rid of the 11-28 on a bike I sold.

That makes the P1 even more attractive. So, how is the P1 selection to order done? In a B&M LBS?

through your local Trek dealer. The online option give you a base view, so you can get a general idea of overall parts and cost, not including tax. I had 2 options that was going to hold up my bike, the cassette and tires. So I just selected the tires and cassette they had in stock to move it along, knowing I was not going to use them anyway. I did choose a stock color as I really like the viper red, if I was to go custom paint, it would have put it into the paint que which was about a 10 day lead time just for paint, but since I chose a stock color, my lead time was 3 days. I am not sure their lead time is with Shimano, since they just moved to 12 speed, but I know the 11 speed was seriously delayed in 2021. Also not sure what the SRAM was as I did not want SRAM as I am a Shimano dude.

but I have to tell you the Di2 and the SLR frame is a very sweet ride, The Pro 3v's are a nice wheel, but they are LOUD, so if you want something a little more quiet, go with the Pro 51's or Pro 37's, unless you want the wide internal of the Pro 3v's. The Pro 37's are a nice wheel, I put some of those on my wife's bike, they roll very nice. I just put the Pro 51's on my bike and I really like them, they roll very nice and are really quiet, plus they look very nice on the frame.

All in all, the P1 process was super simple and a breeze transaction.

Di2 is a no go. Thanks for the heads-up on the 51s.

Sweet, which version and color. 4 months is not bad considering.

Considering how the long lead times are all over the place, the LBS suggested putting two on the order. Paid in full for one, put a deposit on the other. If the one I paid in full for does not make the time frame & the other does, then I'll be paid back the difference.

1st choice: 2021 Domane SL 6 - Matte/Gloss Trek Black
2nd choice: 2022 Domane SL 5 - Satin Trek Black

That is a great idea, and wished I had thought about that at the time I got mine, I would have done that. I like the SL 5's Satin Black and Rage Red and Blue Fade paint schemes.
Congrats and hope you really enjoy the bike, I know I do.
