A bicycle like no other...

I can't imagine what sub-forum this might fit (Utility? Alt Bike? Rec & Family? Classic & Vintage?) so here it is in General Discussion. I came across this gem in the October 1939 Popular Science this morning whilst searching out interesting filler for a vintage car club newsletter.

They used that bike to escape the German invasion from their home country in the 30’s.

Unfortunately none of them could sing, so no movie and they died in obscurity.

Considering how heavy a treadle sewing machine is (on top of all of the people onboard), I can't imagine pedaling this thing... and what kind of tires must those be???

Also would wonder what kind of lube is used within the drivetrain. Needs to have a stealth like operation to squeak by the constables.

Looks like dad didn't get a proper bike fit. His knees must hate him.

The caption says Chicago, Ill.
I'd have bet good money on Portland, Oregon

It wouldn't even stand out there
