I was just there on the Friday after Labor Day. Started my tour in Vienna, OH. Rode to Franklin and camped along the ART. Rode the trail the next morning and continued on to Shippenville.

Stopped along the trail and walked up to the bridge that carries the Sandy Creek Trail across the river.

Saw two bald eagles that morning. One in camp in Franklin and the other along the ART.

yes - I was following your posts on the recent tour

appears just about every hiker / biker / etc that has visited that area has seen an eagle - except for myself and mrs t2p

ditto for other nearby area rides - including Lake Wilhelm / Goddard State Park ... just about everyone has seen an eagle or osprey except for us

When I camped in Franklin during a 2014 tour I was having my morning coffee when two squabbling eagles landed for a bit in a tree right near me.

The really cool thing this year was the owl that was on a limb directly above my shelter just after I got into my sleeping bag. We had a conversation. Neither of us knew what the other was saying.

I have seen countless osprey, especially when touring in Montana.

Bald eagle in Montana.

Osprey pair in Montana.

Hey ... you're in my hood! Did you go down to Reds Meadow for a look?

I hear the fall colors are in full bloom right now ... great time to be up in the Eastern Sierra.

I had planned to head down to Reds Meadow, but I was wiped by the time I got to the summit. The altitude on day 1 hit me pretty hard.

There are some colors starting to show in the scrub on Mary Lake Rd.

Very nice! The altitude is quite high and takes a chunk out of a lot of people the first few days. Hope you can stay long enough for that to ease up.

I love that particular ride (Village to Reds Meadow and back). But all the time you're descending down there, all you can think is that steep climb back up. The views are amazing, though.

Hope you get to ride through the June Lake Loop. It's got to be amazing right now. Enjoy!

Not sure how old these vines are but they were here when I moved to the area 42 years ago.

Looks familiar? Mammoth Lakes? Looks like the Minarets in the background.

Yep. That’s the bike path up to the Mammoth Lakes Basin in California … my second home.

The basin itself was beautiful too.

Very nice ride along the Allegheny. Which includes the Rockland and Kennerdale tunnels. the Kennerdal tunnel is over 3,350 feeI long with a bend in it. If you would have continued north you would have see the Belmar bridge that Indyfabz posted pics of. the Sandy creek trail intersects with the Allegheny river trail and is also a great scenic rail trail. Another good place to get a beer and something to eat is in Franklin at the Ales to trails brewery.
