I found an unused threaded Co2 cartridge mtn biking, it went into the saddle bag for future use.

I've also seen a number of used ones along the mups here.

Around here I see the N2O whipped cream cartridges. I don't think I've ever seen a CO2 one tossed.

I think we may be giving ourselves a bum wrap.

I posted a similar thread a few years ago about the Sella Ronda and every mountain pass being littered.
I titled the thread "A rant against hardcore cyclists".
I got similar response to this thread, Some people agreed, some denied, others spent a good amount of time saying what a waste this thread was, and one esteemed member in particular replied that the OP is nothing but a rant.
So, goes to show that 2 wheels or not, some people are aloof

I don't like to see what is obviously cyclist-type litter along my commute rides. Half of my ride is on a military post, and I see discarded Gu packets occasionally along the same portion of roadway. This says to me that it's the same individual with a habitual pattern. Weird. I don't appreciate it.

Unless she physically can't ride, the best thing would have been to have gotten back on the bike shortly after the accident when bones and bruises had fixed or healed. It's hard and can be scary, but it's really good for ones mental health.

Unfortunately there is always a small risk of injury when cycling. Even hitting a small stick wrong could send someone off the bike.

Ever ridden in Canada? I've been through AB and B.C. for the last 4 years and their roads are immaculate. People there don't throw stuff out the window like they do here in the states. It is sickening.

To the OP. I chide cyclists that do this. In group rides I go pick up gel packs that some cast aside and most are shamed pretty good by that. I've even seen cyclists toss tubes to the side of the road.

Reminds me of the trails up to Mount Everest, littered with garbage. Some climbers admit it's a problem; some pretend the problem doesn't exist.

All that's missing here are the piles of human waste and the dead bodies.

Interesting and sad comments by the OP. I hate trail litter... When I see people littering, I feel like picking-up their litter and making them eat it (that's the nicest thought I have). I hadn't considered the possible falling hazard caused by a small, hard, metal CO2 cartridge. Ironically, someone posted an opinion piece on Road Bike Review regarding something similar:

This year I made a personal decision to stop using CO2 in favor of a mini pump before I realized there was so many "issues" with them. While a mini pump is certainly less convenient than CO2, to me the advantages outweigh the disadvantages:

• You can have infinite flat tires with a pump, but only as many flats as you have CO2 cartridges. I used to carry 2 CO2 cartridges, but that turned out to be not enough in at least one occasion.
• Tire pressure diminishes when inflated with CO2 and it gets warm out. Ever had a flat that was fixed with a CO2 only to have that same tire flat again before you got home?
• Mini pumps can fit in your pocket and many seat packs (my pump fit just fine in my seat pack)
• Mini pumps eliminate the whole litter debate (unless you throw out your pump after each use?!?!)
• For the weight-weenie: Mini pumps don't weigh that much... especially when compared to a handful of CO2 cartridges and the related adaptors. There are several carbon mini pumps for the ultimate in weight savings (your wallet will be much lighter!)

The only real disadvantage I see to mini pumps is that you have to get upper body exercise to inflate your tires (*gasp*!) While this is a slight inconvenience in our modern world, if I think about the reason I ride my bike to begin with... which is primarily to stay in shape... then having to manual pump my tires on occasion is actually helping the cause!

Maybe it's my mtb "roots", but I, and the people I ride with (many never mtb'd) follow the "leave no trace" philosophy. Trash, whether on the trail, or found on people's lawns around the neighborhood, or seen along the roadside irks me. What is so hard about taking your fast food (or whatever) wrapper, cup, etc. back home to be thrown into the trash?! The medians and sides of the expressways look so much nicer around here during KY. Derby (in a normal year)--it could look that way all the time if people wouldn't just carelessly discard their trash. Same with trails and mups. I have a feeling, at least I hope, that the great majority of people who visit this site are not guilty of trashing things up. There's no excuse for not properly discarding trash.
