Another Triple question - Rings for Racing T

Since there are a couple of new threads on triples, I though I should get involved with another.
I recently obtained a Racing T with 52/42/30 rings. In searching the web, I noticed there was a 50/40/30 option. I am interested but am not able to find a set. There are one of each on the bay at the moment but $240 is a bit rich for me to get two rings, used!

I am open to alternatives and am wondering if just replacing the 53 with a 50 would be too out of line. I did see a crankset on the bay with that combo.

Or is the 40 for the 42 a better option?

Rear block is 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 19, 21, 23

Looks like 8 speed. I think you'd be fine but a few things to consider.

Chainring ramps/pins/pairs: I'm running 8 speed Campy with a 46/30 on a Racing T crank. The 46 is an old TA 135 BCD ring from eBay and isn't ramped or pinned. According to anecdotal info when I researched some chainring options, badly paired rings with ramps/pins may shift worse than plain flat rings. On another crank, I didn't have any issues with generic ramped/pinned 44/28 combo (the 44 wasn't especially made for a 28 in that case), other than what I mention below. Since you're showing 8s, I think unramped/unpinned flat rings should shift fine if you're willing to baby it just a bit. If you want to front shift while mashing, get some paired ring sets (i.e. outer will be marked 50/40, middle 40/30).

Front derailleurs: I think the 50 would be just fine. You may run into issues running a standard triple front derailleur if you get too far away from the 10-12 tooth gaps found on most triples. I found when trying to use a FD-5503 triple front for the 44/28 combo that the center "channel" of the FD wouldn't allow me to shift well as the 16t jump moved too far up for the FD for either position (either set to outer cage or set to try and run the "middle" at 44). Examine what you've got and if it's the "standard" triple FD (you'll see a middle channel that's wider where the chain sits on the 40/42, and a much lower inner plate than the outer), it might not shift well diverging too far away from the norm. I shift my 46/30 with a early 90s Athena double FD and it works just fine (8s Record Ergos). I shifted my 44/28 with a Shimano CX-70 after I failed to get the FD-5503 to work after much fiddling (9s STI). I actually shift a Chorus 53/42/30 with the same CX-70 now and it works great after I couldn't get the Record 10 FD to quite reach the outer ring (10s Chorus Ergos).

Alternate 135 BCD Chainring options that I looked into a bit: TA (Peter White, Chain Reaction Cycles), Stronglight/Miche (XXCycle), Garbaruk (no idea where to buy)

Good luck! YMMV etc etc etc

50-42-30 should work fine. At one point I considered a racing T for the Bianchi, and that is the ringset I was going to cobble together for it, since I currently run a 1.5-step: 50-42 / 14-16-18-20-23-26.

@AJI125 - Thanks for the detailed response! I like details!
I have a Record FD that was suppose to go on the De Rosa but it would not clear the 53T ring! I surmised that it was a triple FD. Now that I think about it, I don't have a braze on mount for it as I bought the replacement FD with the band clamp and swapped the mount!

Double FD

The difference is the length of the two linkages between the pivots.

Well it looks like the Chorus FD on the bike has the mount I need!
