Trying to ID a 1970/71 Peugeot
A friend of mine bought this when stationed overseas, 1970/71. Trying to determine the vintage/model so we can get some handle on the value. I知 not versed in vintage.
Anyone recognize this bike?

it appears to be a model UE8 from ~1972
that year was the first for the NERVAR chrome chainguard, at least for North American models
from your text it sounds like it may be from a different market...
one simple check which could be made is to look at the wheel size:
if cycle produced for export to an anglophone land the wheel size will be 27"
if not produced for an anglophone land wheel size will likely be 700
here is a manufacturer's catalogue page for the model UE8 of 1974 (closest year found quickly) for the US market -
---
very earliest possible date it could be is 1971 because of the shift levers it wears
possible the cycle's Simplex Prestige gear mech may carry a date marking as in these illustratioins -

This looks right. I値l ask him to check the wheel. I suspect it is 700c, he purchased it in Greece. Are there value guides / blue books for bikes like this? My friend was thinking about having the local bike shop modernize it so he could ride it, but I知 thinking it might have value to a collector.
if you wish a valuation you could post the cycle to the appraisals forum:
https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-v...th-appraisals/
one jumbo caveat regarding valuations: they can very a good deal depending on location, this also applies to salability
