Handspun Peloton Series Cross Disc wheelset - w/ A23s
Nice sale on a Velocity A23 / SRAM x.9 disc hub cross wheelset for $254.00 and free shipping:
Handspun Peloton Series Cross Disc Front Wheel 700c 32h SRAM X.9 / Velocity A23 / DT Competition All Front:
SKU: WE7304 1 $122.62
Handspun Peloton Series Cross Disc Front Wheel 700c 32h SRAM X.9 / Velocity A23 / DT Competition Rear:
SKU: WE7305 1 $130.95
The only downside, I have heard with these are that they are heavy/ but then again so am I. I like that they are disc hubs, but the A23s work with rim brakes - since my 2 cross bikes are one rim/ one disc. I actually plan to use these without rotors on my Cannondale X9 with rim brakes this season.

That's actually not that heavy at all for a disc wheelset in that price range.
I've used A23 rims and X9 hubs separately, and I love them both. I can definitely see a set of these in my future.

I wanted to get some wide clinchers, that are tubeless ready. The Stan's were out of my "modest" price range - so I have been looking for some Velocity A23's. These Handspuns were the best deal on disc hub A23s that I could find.
This discussion has made me wonder if the SRAM X.9 hubs (with 12 points of engagement) are inferior to the new Shimano 29er hubs with 32 POE:

Others say that for cyclocross 12 points of engagement is fine, it is just technical uphill slow rock climbs on a MTB where the POE is important. Any thoughts?

I've only used my X9 hubs for cyclcocross, so POE hasn't been an issue. I don't know what the source is for 12 POE, but I count 15 clicks on a full hub rotation on mine. Just wiggling them back and forth, the engagement feels similar to my Ultegra hubs.
What I can tell you is that after about 3500 miles of use, mostly in the rain, with zero maintenance the wheels still spin like the day I built them.
BTW, does your Cannondale have 135 rear spacing?

I don't think the X9 hub will fit in your rear dropout. The X9 is 135mm mtb spacing. I would guess that your c dale has 130mm road spacing. Have you looked at the Handspun A23 laced to Shimano 105? Might be a little lighter (1970g) and comes with a 36H rear which can be nice for bigger riders.

Just an FYI, The rim does not have a machined brake surface. Disc brake only.

I like the width of the Velocity A23's - can you get them a machined brake surface?

Bummer, I need rim brakes for this season. Had to cancel the order with https://www.cycleclubsports.com (which was super easy - instant Paypal refund after calling).

No, I don't have a local wheelbuilder (I am in Baltimore, MD).
I am looking at these: https://www.cycleclubsports.com/casea...ng&pageSize=20
I wish they put the machined surface Velocity A23 rims on the disc hub versions for dual duty. Any suggestions?

A23 'normally' for rim brakes...got a decent local wheelbuilder who can design a wheelset specifically for you and your needs??

It should be easy to find a wheelbuilder in Baltimore. Go to your favorite shop and tell them your plans.

Just swapped out an A23/ Novatec Hub Front in place of Open Pro/ 105 and it is sweet rolling rim. I'm waiting on rear wheel bits and pieces for a complete set. Maybe the road bike will get ridden since it will have its own wheels now?
