Ah, the Death Pedals. Using those on Eroica would be cutting off your nose to spite your face.

The M71s are best left to only the track. And even then use with much caution.
Heck, even moto GP racers are always told to not try to hold on to thrir bikes if they crash.....
Did Cinelli issue any disclaimers to the consumers when they sold those??

Registered, First l'Eroica!
'23 is my first l'Eroica. The bicycle is a '85 Pinarello Montello that was bought in '92, it has been ridden up to 2003 when I got a new bike. The bike was ridden again im 2020 when the new bike delivery got delayed by the pandemic and the 2nd bike was in for a top tube replacement. That year the Montello got ridden 5,000 miles.
For l'Eroica the correct pedals were installed and used with laced shoes and slotted Look adaptors.
840 road miles on these.
I have zero miles of gravel riding on any bike.

I think I've seen that bike in the mornings on the bike path in in front of LAX and on Ballona Creek.

LAX & Ballona Creek Ride
I'm looking at RidewithGPS for good local dirt roads to practice for l'Eroica. Kenter Mulholland seems like easy roads to start on, any suggestions appreciated.

I'm in no great hurry to register but I'm fairly certain I'll go. The day of the main ride happens to be my anniversary, and my uncle has a lovely place where my wife and I typically stay in Cayucos so I'm sure that'll be the plan.
I will probably attempt to do the long route on the recently acquired Jo Routens after Mark gugie modifies the stem for me sometime in the coming months and I get everything re-greased and smooth rollin'!

As near as I can tell, no M71 pedal has ever caused actual death death of anyone. Doesn't mean they haven't tried, mind you . . . .

I am wanting to volunteer for the Eroica California event .... so there will be no April/May event? Just the one event in September 2023?
Just trying to plan ...

Unofficially there's a plan for the weekend of April 8-9, but it'll be self-supported. Just like the one last Eroica California, but without the entry fee.

Signed up to do the combo again in 2023... 72 miles on the Saturday Nova Eroica ride (on the Time ADHX w/Campy Ekar), followed by the short classic route on Sunday (on the '84 Bianchi Specialissima)... I will say that the dirt road are SO much easier on a modern bike (blasphemy, I know).

I was seriously considering a retro-Nova Eroica on my Ross Shafer gravel/monstercross rig, but I don't think I want to do 72mi back-to-back this year. Unless by September I'm feeling particularly strong?

Up in Cambria right now, doing some training for Eroica (I know, it's not a vintage bike but at least it's a Bianchi)... OK, not really, but it's an excuse to ride Santa Rosa Creek Road. Still can't get over how gorgeous it is up here...
