Another 29.1ks this morning.
I'm glad I didn't listen to the weather reports that said there was going to be thick fog out there between 3 and 6am. I didn't see any fog at all, although the conditions were good for it because it was warmer than the last few mornings (it was nearly 10 degrees!!) and there was no wind. Looking at the radar I beat the rain by a few hours, but that's setting in for the weekend now so I don't think I'll get another ride in until next week now

I had my first real dog encounter in over 31,000 road miles. The last few miles of my longer road routes is a MUP. A couple with a chocolate lab weren't paying enough attention and gave him too much slack. I saw them coming, so I had already slowed down, but he rammed into me. Didn't try to bite me or anything, but he hit me pretty solidly. No solidly enough to know me over, but I probably looked very annoyed. And then I recalled the same couple had almost allowed the same thing to happen a few days ago. I was wearing ear buds listening to music but I could hear them apologizing profusely as I passed. So I took off the buds and turned around to talk to them. They apologized again and said they have the pup enrolled in training classes, but that he's frustrating them with how slowly he's learning. Then it occurred to me that maybe the pup doesn't understand that people on bikes are people too, so I tried to get him to come let me pet him. He was not very interested because his dad had just swatted him for his behavior. So we talked for a few seconds longer and the pup got curios, so I persisted and got some good scruffles. I'll be on the look out for him in the future and will dismount and wait for them to approach to try to pet the pup again. Maybe it will help their training.

I've endured 54 summers in the Plano area. It does indeed appear to be warming up early this year. But there has been a much stiffer wind than normal too. Hopefully the wind sticks around with the heat, but I somehow doubt it.

I do recall seeing 100 degrees in mid April back in 2006. At least this isn't that!

It will be highs in the 100's for Vegas next week, good thing that I am missing that, it should have highs in the mid 80's when I get back.

Another 29.1 but my heart wasn't really in it and I was a little bit slower than usual. Because of the hours I ride I'm not keen on weekend rides. It doesn't happen every weekend but even out here in the country people have parties and Friday night parties seem to be the worst for drunken idiots just being there at 4am. I used to cop them a bit when I was walking in the morning, most were just happy drunks staggering home, or somewhere, occasionally it was a car full of yahoos. Being on a bike presents a different target for some of these idiots and I am usually not fanatical enough about my riding to go out and risk it but I've got a busy day ahead of me installing solar panels so I needed to be limber. I hope it worked!

Tonight I rode to the opposite end of the MUP to see how they are progressing. Goes about 0.5 miles further than last year, but still coming up short of the ocean. Getting there though.

Also found that the bats are back. I don't like swallowing the bugs attracted to my light at night, but I love it when the bats swoop into the light beam to catch them.

I had a great April, May is a busier month for us, camping and fishing. Since I know there isa couple out of town trips, I am going to lower my gaol if I beat it great. We are planing of shooting down to Bella Vista to Rogers Ark and spending a day or two riding down there. That is about a two hour drive for us.

Now to check the weekend weather. Still cold now. 50 and sunny.
Did the Sea to Shining Sea bike path on a beautiful Saturday. So sunburned!
