Bike Racks
Hi, I'm an experienced winter cyclist and I am active on the winter thread.
I'm just wondering, how easy would it be to remove a rear tire (to install winter/summer tires) once a bike rack is installed on the rear?
Question is related to: if this would be an increased hassle, then I might also get a new bicycle designated just for summer and then install the rack on the bike designated for winter.
I asked this question the other day and no one had a clear answer so I thought I'd ask it here instead.
Thanks guys!

I have 7 and 10 speed derailleurs and fenders on my 2 commuter bikes, both with rear racks.
They have zero effect on my ability to fix a flat.
I know this from a deep experience base.

The only way it would make any difference is if you had one of those racks for carbon bikes that use the thru-axle instead of rackmounts on the frame. In that case it would add some annoyance to remove the wheel, but given how annoying a flat is they would be the least of your worries. If your frame has rack mounts then the rack has no impact on changing a tire.

The rear rack on my tourer (Axiom) does not interfere with the QR on the rear axle. I can get the wheel off when needed. The fenders make it more of an issue pulling the wheel back on, if anything,

My experience is a little different. Bought a rear rack, installed from the LBS. No probs, like it.. When the rear wheel is off the rack pulls or pushes, I forget which, the frame open/closed a little. To replace the wheel I have to push or pull to get the wheel back in. It's not much. Maybe 2 mm.
It's not really a problem when you know what's going on.
