Campagnolo Syncro II: cover interchangeability?

Hi C&V,

I have a Campagnolo Syncro II rear shifter with a cracking plastic cover plate (what is this called?) and I was wondering if I could replace it with the metal one instead. Will this work?

Yes, I know my Syncro probably ought to be replaced with something less finicky but just curious.

The Synchro Ii levers I have has metal version of that end plate. It came on a bike I bought that had full 1st gen Chorus gruppo on it. I suspect the lower, maybe later models have the plastic end plates.
Campagnolo usually just passed down their higher model component designs to the lower level mleves, with usually just changes to finish and materials. Thus, I suspect that the metal end plate should work on your lever if you can find one. You might also just consider replacing the whole lever set with a complete set that came with the metal end plate, as finding just the end plate might be much more difficult.

Quite likely that you could use a appropriately sized metal flat washer

Maybe…. It all depends. You can switch this friction yes? I never saw a lot of Synchro shifters but I don’t recall plastic covers. We need to see if the backside of your piece looks like the backside of the metal one, part #8.

Yes I think the metal one might fit.

Yes, metal looks the same on the inside. I think the black plastic cover was used on Athena level kit after the first couple of years
