I've done most of my buying and selling with mountain bikes, and I'm just not sure how to price my road bike. Hope you guys can help.

Motobecane Le Champion Ti (made by ORA), 56cm, full Ultegra 6800 groupset including the wheels. Carbon bars and post. It's fairly low mileage and is in like new condition. I'm the original owner and it took me a long time to decide to let it go, but it's time. I'm aware of the nose-thumbing of the brand. Phoenix metro, if it matters. What do you feel is a fair price in this market?

Crikey. Not sure if serious on the $850 mark. That feels quite low (doesn't it always when you're the seller). I guess my mistake is comparing it to what you'd get in a bike shop today. $850 doesn't even get you in the door, and this is a quite nice bike. That said, if it is really worth less than a grand, I may just keep it around. Value retention sure ain't what it is in mountain biking!

How about 60-70% of the cost for a new bike? Even 70% is optimistic. I've bought brand new leftover frames for 60% of original price.

I bought a Lynskey Ti about 5 years ago for about $4500. Looks to be outfitted almost identically. $850 looks to be a steal. (For not steel). Maybe some associate the Motobecaine name with a cheap bike. They certainly made those too, but this is not one of them.

You might do better removing the Moto stickers and just selling it as a Ti bike of unknown origin.

I've actually considered that. The only problem is that for some people, it raises concerns that it may be stolen (at least I've heard that mentioned before). It's quite a bum rap for these Ti moto-bacons. People turn their nose up at them, then ride around on their brand name Ti bikes that were also made in the ORA factory by exactly the same guys to exactly the same standards. Oh well, that's how the industry goes. I knew that when I bought it.

Also check out eg Ebay for parts prices in the used market.. Ultegra groupset, wheelset, saddle, bars, etc.
You could try asking the ProsCloset for a quote to buy it from you, but I suspect they'll no-bid on this one since it's metal framed and non-disc.

Depending on the market, I think $800 to $1000 is about right. In LA at least, you can usually find similarly equipped Litespeeds and Merlins for around that same price on CL.

As a point of comparison - I built up a mid-90's Dean Ti road bike 2 years ago, when I suddenly found myself with a frame and free time at the beginning of the pandemic. The frame was $300 from a friend, a new 1" carbon threadless fork was $220, and the rest of the components (some used, some new, some free) totaled about $450, so just under $1000 for the whole bike, not including my labor to assemble it (which I enjoyed). Drivetrain is Shimano 105 5700 (10-speed). Your bike looks nicer, other than my Dean having maybe a more desirable builder name (although also an older frame). I think you could ask $1200-1500, doesn't sound like you're in a rush to sell it so you might as well start a little high and see if you get any offers.

The brand is a knock against it as is the groupset being two generations old. However, it is Ti and Ultegra which are both upsides. I'd post for 1100-1200 and be happy with 1000, unless I needed the money, I wouldn't sell it below that but then others might be right at 850. Although the brand gets some knocks for its direct to model and the lousy job people do assembling, I've seen plenty of their upper range bikes like this and the 853 steel and I think both are nice and will match any of the big brands.

I agree with datlas, nice bike. If I road it at least once a year I would not get rid of it.

Do you really need the money? Just give it to someone that needs it and will use it.

If it embarrasses them to be gifted a bike, then let them give you a token sum for it. Whatever makes them feel good about it.

Its a nice bike so unless you need $$$ keep it as it can surely pay priceless dividends for your health.
It is interesting how much different the value would be if the decal was off or read MOOTS

Look at it this way. You are selling a frame with an old mechanical group set that is not disk. Person who would buy this bike is either will be looking to do an "entry level", or will strip it and put newer components on it. Either way it doesn't translate to $$ for this bike.
