No more rustines?

I was checking Velo-orange to see if they got gum rustines hoods back in stock.... but they are gone! I can’t find any of the rustines products on their site. Are there alternate sources? I really liked their products!

Under the new ownership some of the original products have been slowly discontinued. They have been moving away from the narrow focus of Randonneuring towards a more mainstream mix of products. I miss some of the old offerings but I think it's a smart move for survival.

Gum Rustines hoods disappeared from ebay, VO, and other sites in May or earlier. You could still find black ones for a while. Now they're all gone. Try the rustines.fr site.

Whew... Looks like they are still available through the Rustines website on the "Le Velo" page. I wonder why finding on US sites became so difficult.

Thanks for pointing out the rustines.fr website SurferRosa.
I can report that the non-aero Soma hoods I recently purchased are very nice.

Last time I looking shipping from France was prohibitively expensive. Maybe a group purchase could be organized to offset the cost. Or maybe sometime next summer they'll be available in the US again.

The Rustines.fr site only lists Universal hoods, for the moment.

Due to their success, some of our products in rubber are out of stock.

Temporarily probably, but no announcement as to when new batches would become available. Maybe they're looking for a new supplier?

Agree!! Not sure if it's a Tucson/Desert thing, but Rustines do not last long out here. I've used a few pairs of Soma hoods and they've held up far better.

Ouch - at the very least, working on two bikes with Mafacs, both needing hoods. And I like the gum shift lever covers, wish I had them on the wheel QR skewers on all of my bikes.

Anyone had any success with modifying full hoods to half style, which incorporate a retaining clip?
Half-hoods are insanely expensive, even here in France...

....I have done something like this using the Cane Creek hoods, which are relatively cheap and durable. I take off only the bottom, trying to trim the flaps neatly, then use double sided mounting tape for auto trim from 3M on each side flap as the retainer. Works pretty well for stuff like the old Universal levers.

I emailed Rustines to ask about the future availability of Campy-style gum hoods. Here is their response:

Hello. Yes, there are plans to manufacture them again, probably by the end of the year. Our uncertainty stems from the fact that it is difficult to source certain materials. We will do them again, that's for sure!
