Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

And of course the world famous Altoona Works!

In related news, 8098 with the heritage Conrail livery was out of the non-round Juniata roundhouse the day before yesterday:

If by playing it at a lower register will help you play it in its normal key, I would say yes. I don't know trumpet but this approach can be used on guitar to aid in fingerings and stretching.

Essentially. We didn't screw on as many accouterments, so it's a little cleaner looking. No splashboard, no fairleads, no tiller extension (although I really could use one of those).

Paint is this colour

And the sails are more C&V than those.

Also the transom is painted, when I see pics like that I sometimes wish it was brightwork though.

Playing higher on the trumpet is like riding the bike faster--everyone wants to do it. But, there's an increased risk you'll crash.

Yeah. That all went to NS.

In 2008 I visited the curve during a supported bike tour from Pittsburgh to Philly. We descended the road that passes underneath and comes out at the visitor center. The funicular railway that takes you up to the curve was out of order, so we had to walk. At the time, the Conrail acquisition was still pending before the STB, and NS was considered the Darth Vader of railroads. (Have you ever heard about the poop and pee bags crews were required to use and then turn in at the end of their shifts?) The night before I made a sign that read "HONK IF YOU HATE NS!" Folded it up and carried it in my jersey pocket. Held it up as the first train came buy. The engineer squinted out the window trying to read it. When he finally made out what it said he busted out laughing, alerted the other crew member then leaned on the horn. One woman on the trip looked at me and said "You are such a dork."

I also intentionally rolled over a couple manhole covers, and again - firm, but not uncomfortable. Could have been 5 or more psi different.

The other thing is, yesterday I felt like I had to reach out for the bar, which suggests 'nose too high'. At the same time I felt 'flat footed' while pedalling. Since I'm a toe pointer, that feels weird to me. Cadences over 95 felt weird, and I normally prefer to spin 95-105. With the adjustments to the saddle, I was easily spinning 100+ rpms without that 'weird' feeling.
But with presta valves, surely the hose pressure and the tire pressure are equal. As ling as you're not actively pumping.

Altoona - Google Maps
As a ute(maybe five years old) I traveled with my mother and sister to Altoona, on the train, the Pennsy. To visit my great aunt. Even at that age, the magnitude of the horseshoe curve sunk in. We traversed it in both directions. My dad was the yardmaster at Orrville, Ohio. I think the fare was free, as a result. I remember it like it was yesterday. Almost

It built dams to control the flow of water.

As a Western Pennsylvania native I'm aware of Altoona. This lake is Allatoona.
