Trainer Hum Louder on Rocker

I just finished making a rocker plate for my Kickr Snap. Seems to work well, and I like how it feels, but the hum from my Snap seems noticeably louder. Mine is build on these rubber air conditioner mounts with tennis balls. So the trainer sits on 3/4" thick plywood board which is mounted on the rubber mounts. The base is also 3/4" plywood and is on top of my rubber trainer mat. The hum seems to be the normal noise of the flywheel spinning, but louder than when it was on the ground. Is this normal? Trying to get my head around it.

Your setup sounds very much like mine. The AC mounts will conduct a lot of sound through them. I bought a couple of the rubber mats (the type that connect together to make a cushioned floor for a playroom, for example) and glued them to the bottom of the lower plywood sheet. That seemed to take care of it.

Yes that is pretty much my setup. I have it sitting on a Kinetic trainer mat instead of the foam like you have. It's also on a cement basement floor. Did it seem like the humming was coming from your trainer?

Upon trying harder to find where the sound is coming from, it almost seems like a weird echo coming from between the boards. Like if I pedal and then get down and listen it really doesn't seem like it's from the trainer.

Just remember that the plywood acts like a big sounding board. Normal noises from the trainer sometimes get amplified. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

So louder can be normal I guess. I'll have to keep playing around with it. Wonder if some sort of mat on top between the trainer and top plate would help. I'll probably get use to it and think of it as normal after a time, but I'd like to quiet it if I can think of something.

It is fascinating that from the saddle it seems all the noise if coming from the trainer, but then when I get near the trainer it doesn't get louder. It must be the sounding board effect. You'd think with vibration dampening mounts this wouldn't be an issue. ha

With a vibration problem like this, there are a couple of solutions. I think the easiest would be to add some ribs to the plywood. It wouldn't take much.

What about putting some of that interlocking foam panels (or a yoga mat) on top of the rocker between it and the trainer? Would that have an insulating effect?
