these two frames, one is a 1992 CT Wallis in Reynolds , a smaller frame than what I ride but its outstanding condition and Reynolds 731 tubing were a no brainer when I purchased it. It will be built with a mix of dura ace 7700/7800 components

Same with a 17 sized Jamis Dragon in Reynolds 853 that will get equipped with full shimano XT-780-T andcrossmax wheels plus other goodies

1989Pre 

Did a club ride on my '62 Rudge Sports over the summer. One rider commented, "I'm really surprised at the speed you got!"
20 miles, Rudge handled it like a champ.

Sourcing and getting this one to my place. It has travelled a lil over 1200 km. Since the pic I've also got a set of 105 pedals and a better stem. Still needs either a Turbo or a Flite saddle and maybe an aero seatpost...

Hmmm.....nothing really all that special for me this year. Knees keep going south and the annual miles keep going down. Still seemed to move a lot of bikes both out and in.

Passed the blue Maillot Jaune on to a local friend who got if for a young women who had discovered a love for steel. One of my favorites but redundant since I picked up the same model in Team Z colors.



Then there was that crazy KHS bike I picked up out of curiosity. Tore it down completely then rebuilt 'er. Did a few rides on it and then passed it on. At a loss as usual, LOL! Still I just get so much happiness out of fixing these beauties up and getting them back in use.



Then I finally "gave up" my years long search for the right Peugeot and bought a white Tourmelet from a local seller. I had a similar Champagne Brown one I rode all over Germany in the 80's and had been looking for one in that color for what seemed like forever. This one was freshly powdercoated but an older gentleman and then built up with period correct French parts. But to be honest it was a bit of a mess. Still I was able to sort it out pretty well and got lot's of great rides on it this year.



I seemed to "rediscover" my love for DT shifting this year too. I also went back into my "history" and paid too much for a sort of ratty Raleigh Team USA frameset. I had a mint set of these years ago foolishly let them go. Always loved the paint scheme. This one was built up with mostly Suntour Superbe parts and a NOS Sugino Crank. Originally I had some cushy tubulars on it but then swapped in some beefy CX tires and used it for light gravel riding. Even took 'er up into the mountains but man is the gearing wrong for steep climbs, LOL!



I also picked up a fairly rough and too small Bianchi Trofeo out of curiosity.

. I had a 90's Campione and while that one was mint it just never tickled my fancy. This current celeste bike is soooooooooo much better on the road despite the small size. Here again it's got a lot of Suntour Superbe bits and is so much fun on the road. I polished the heck out of it to revive the shine, serviced everything, swapped on a new wheelset, and then put some fast fun miles on it. I'll try and move it on locally this spring and then try to find a new (old) one more in my size. But to be honest if it doesn't sell I'll gladly keep riding it.

Then there was a Kuwahara Count languishing locally for awhile. Never seen one and I was curious. So I grabbed that also. It's probably the roughest paint-wise of all my bikes but still a real beauty overall. Another full polish, some paint touch up, servicing etc and then many fun rides. Good to get this one back out on the road too. The original owner basically had it hanging for a very long time. Here too though I'll try to move this one locally this spring just due to space concerns. But I won't mind keeping and riding it also.



Not exactly C&V but still has quite a few years on it. Supposedly one of the first European monocoque carbon bikes. She's a real beauty and quite fun to ride. Not sure what I'm going to do with this one in terms of keep it or sell it. II just enjoyed it this year.



The final "project" bike was a cheap, dirty, neglected Raleigh Supercourse with one of those bonded aluminum/steel frames. This was going to be this years donation to the local bike Coop. Once I cleaned it up though I found a really nice bike underneath despite it being a "low end" model. So shamefully I started wanting to keep it for now, upgrade it, and then ride it some next year before deciding on it's fate. Of course that mean donating either the Bianchi or the Kuwahara to the Coop. Then a couple of weeks ago something totally weird happened at the coop (political B.S. so not going into details). Tried to resolve what I thought was a "misunderstanding" by one individual but the Coop board supported the discrimination. So problem solved no more donations to them. So I get to keep the Raleigh for now. Here again a total tear down and rebuild with more modern parts. Please forgive me. Replaced the pretty much mint Exage parts with a nice mixture of Dura Ace and Ultergra bits. I think this bike is beautiful now and can't wait until spring so I can test it out. I dropped over 4 lbs on this one as I sorted it out.




Along the way this year a absolutely beautiful David Kirk Terraplane also made it into the house for a steal of a price. I also picked up a supposed Oscar Freire bike that I'm still trying to confirm the history of. And the past weekend I got my first ever Eddy Merckx bike. It's a 1996 Corsa 01 in Domo Farm Frites team colors. I've spent way too much on bikes this year but it's so much fun getting to enjoy all these different rides.

This is really too small but I don't care. If I can ever tie it to Oscar it's going to get the place of honor in the bike cave. Freire was a fave of mine because he always showed up big in the races you expected him to do well in.

My vintage year has been more about building than riding, and I hope to rectify that this coming season!

1. Attended the Auburn show in Auburn, IN, photographed by David Beck earlier in this thread.
2. Delivered my 1980 Woodrup with some desired refinements implemented by Ron Boi, to Jeff Beck for consultation and re-finishing.
3. Am building wheels for my 1952 Rudge Aero Special - 27 x 1 1/4 Super Champion rims, for original AW hub rear and Raleigh Industries small flange hub in the front. I might just wash up the original steel IGH hub and steel rim, and meanwhile service my Alloy AW or FM hub to build with the other alloy Super Champion rim. The bike will have the GB calipers, some other levers (possibly Mavic), a classic leather saddle (Ideale 80, Ideale 92, Brooks Pro Select, or ... something newer) and GB randonneuse bars with a suitable alloy stem, a TA Cyclotourist/Pista chainset, Lyotard Berthets, some SKS mudguards, and 32 mm or 36 mm tires branded Pasela or Swifttire, possibly Rene Herse. Should be nice, hoping for the road in the spring!
4. 1982 52 cm Trek 720 being build for local riding with wide-range 2 x 7 friction shifting and 700c rims. This won't be a tourer, it is supposed to be smooth, easy bike to take downtown or take out into the farmlands. The frame might have some alignment points to be fixed, but for the moment we're just interested in good-enough. One goal is to build with used parts on hand, as far as possible. I guess I'm learning under-biking!
5. I assisted a beautiful, powerful local rider whom is also of mom of a pair of our piano students to become prepared for a local womens' tri-ath event. She borrowed a late-1980s KLH (?) from another friend, and I went through it and tuned it, mainly just lubing and adjusting the shifting and brakes. I ended up swapping my ist generation Campy chain-set onto it, and failed to retrieve it, but I did get a different Campy chain-set. We went out on a short test ride and she promptly left me 50 feet behind and I could not cut my losses or even remain even. She trained for 3 weeks and won the event, so I guess I done good!

Other than re-wrapping a bunch of handlebars (going narrower), pumping latex tubes endlessly, gluing and taping tubulars, micro adjusting everything for an aging C&V body, buying a handlebar bag (a first), etc.

If you mind saying, but do you happen to know what handlebars you have on there? Those look like a great profile, nice and short reach. I'm looking for something like that that can do 25.4. I know of the HWY ONE bar, but I think it is only available in 26 clamp diameter.

I think 2022 must be the year my memory really started to go because when I first saw this thread my first thought was that I didn't really do much besides Eroica California and weekly rides around the county with @gugie, but then as I read the thread I was like "Oh, yeah there was also the Summer Tour of the Willamette Valley...and the McKenzie Pass Ride...and the Lake Washington ride and visit to Seattle as part of @nlerner's visit to the PNW..." It kind of reminded me of this:
Apart from the previously mentioned rides, I also had a fantastic long weekend of baseball and bike riding with @Dfrost when my beloved Orioles visited Seattle. On this trip we also visited @bulgie to see his shop and talk about bikes. Since others have already shared pics from the other events, I won't, but here are a couple from the bikes and baseball weekend.





I guess I'd have to say 2022 has been a pretty good year of riding for me.

On the bike building front, the year started off with the completion of a Cannondale ST-400. I bought this in December of 2021, but I didn't finish rebuilding it until the first week in January, so I'm putting it on this list.



Between April and June I had two fun projects going on. The first was the building of a beautiful ~1967 Peugeot PX-10 Super Deluxe. Given a couple of bikes that come later, it's hard to say which is my most exciting bike of the year, but this is definitely a contender, and in a stable heavy with French bikes, this is my first mostly French build.



While that was going on, I was also participating in @Narhay's Clunker 100 Challenge, for which I restored a 1979 Centurion Elite.



This project also gave me my first chance to dip my toe (very slightly) into the world of brazing, under @gugie's guidance. I made a bit of a mess of it, but it cleaned up OK.



I also took my first shot at lug lining, with good results.



At that point I thought I was done adding new bikes for the year, but then in August I stumbled on a 1984 Pinarello Super Record Special in my size and in the color that I've been lusting after for years. Heretic that I am, I removed the original Super Record parts and rebuilt it in my preferred riding configuration. I'm calling this bike Neo because I think it could be The One.



So then I definitely thought I was done with new bikes, maybe even completely done, but we all know how that goes. So about a month ago, this happened.



I have no defenses against chrome lugs like that. This is a 1971 Mercian Vincitore, which I guess will be my first build of 2023. It's already been to @gugie's Atelier for bottle bosses and a few other updates.



So, yeah, 2022 has been a good year in C&V for me.

I also put a Cannondale ST400 back on the road this spring. I got it last fall at the Memory Lane swap in Ohio. It looked like it had been used as a commuter for a few years, but it cleaned up nicely. After the amount of dirt and grit from its previous life, I was surprised the fragile plastic parts were all intact. It came with one 27 inch and one 700c wheel, so I built new 27 inch wheels with the mismatched hubs.


1990 Cannondale ST400

The high point of the year was being awarded Best of Show for my Fuji at a classic bike show after one of the weekly club rides. There were some really nice bikes, but the judge said that my inclusion of all the vintage accessories was what put me over the top. I had toe clips, a Brooks B17, a Zephal HP pump, a saddle bag, string-back gloves, and a 1990s foam helmet.

Interesting question. In thinking about it, it wasn’t any of the rides I did. It wasn’t the bikes that came into the garage. It was when my wife asked me to build up a bike for her for CIno or Eroica. She had shown no interest in vintage bikes, she preferred sticking with CF bikes. The Guerciotti is almost finished, just need to do final fit (the seat needs to drop 2inches) and tuning, then bar tape. Since the Guerciotti is about 3-4cm too big I also picked up a compliant mt bike with a mid 80’s Gary Fisher as a back up. Potentially the two may be combined to get a configuration she likes.

For my 70th I went back to real bike kit, after 20 years of riding in street clothes. My enjoyment of the sport, my frequency of rides, and thus my mileage all increased.

Thank you very much! The handlebars are from Decathlon. 25.4 mm clamp, 400 width, 70 reach, 120 drop. The side profile photo hides the fact well that the finish is actually black, but I'm planning on sanding and polishing it for a natural aluminium finish.
Kalloy UNO also had options for 25.4 mm compat drops in the past, not sure if those are still available.
And the bike's real fast, especially with these tyres!

When I got back on the bike last year my brother wanted to give me his red Centurion Comp TA. Told him I need some miles underneath me before taking his fine old road bike.

3,800 miles so far in 2022, and I have a C&V project for 2023. The dreaming begins. 😃 😜 😀

12 March: I rode my newly assembled Ken Ryall from home (near sea level) to the top of Kazahari pass (1146 metres) and back home again, for a total of 185 km. Not my biggest ride of the year, but my biggest on anything vintage ... er, well, most bits of which I can call vintage.
