I have seen it done. But only on track hubs. You know, the ones without an oil hole or clip. It was for a National championship event. With the wheel held horizontal, oil was added through the gap between the cone and dust cap. In the end, it didn’t seen to make any difference in the rider’s results.

I like the interchangeable feature of the wheels on my Vespas, but on a bike I have never missed it so far, and seeing the price of the bivalent hubs, I guess even if I would, they wouldn't be a solution for me. Is it only me, or they were the solution for a rather non-existing problem? (I might be narrow minded, and can think of everyday bike riding only). They are rare an look good, but do they worth the extra momo, or is it only a collector hype?

Those are pretty but it seems like doing it without drilling the holes would save effort/time and the need for such a clip.

Disclosing the fact that you wanted a literal bucket of spring clips for Jim Merz's custom hub production (for sale or himself, doesn't matter, it's a whale of a request) might have been a fine way for the people of this forum to know exactly the scale of what you had in mind.

2, I recall spring oil clips coming in a jar, maybe campy, maybe Zeus. But we had them in quantity because like a cable ends, it was a more efficient use of time to grab another than chase one down if it sprung or rolled away.
