Does anyone actually oil their hubs? .......As a practical matter are the clips necessary?

I have seen it done. But only on track hubs. You know, the ones without an oil hole or clip. It was for a National championship event. With the wheel held horizontal, oil was added through the gap between the cone and dust cap. In the end, it didn’t seen to make any difference in the rider’s results.

I like the interchangeable feature of the wheels on my Vespas, but on a bike I have never missed it so far, and seeing the price of the bivalent hubs, I guess even if I would, they wouldn't be a solution for me. Is it only me, or they were the solution for a rather non-existing problem? (I might be narrow minded, and can think of everyday bike riding only). They are rare an look good, but do they worth the extra momo, or is it only a collector hype?

Those are pretty but it seems like doing it without drilling the holes would save effort/time and the need for such a clip.

If someone wants to send one of these to me, I'll reverse engineer it in Creo and 3D print some. I'll send it back when I'm done along with a freebie printed unit.

I would sell these to anyone who wants for postage plus a couple bucks for my time/effort once the fit has been proved. I don't have any Campy hubs.

New clips for new hubs works.
I have no '65 oil clips to offer.

Try Mel Pinto Imports. Then come back to us whining about price and quantity.

Isn't there something in the forum rules about businesses not using C&V for storefronts, or words to that effect? Or was I supposed to look in the bucket?

what business are you speaking of?

a retired man working on a project in his own backyard shop or me, his friend who thought some clips might make a fine Xmas gift?

Is he really selling those? I thought all of the stuff Jim Merz fabricated he was just doing for himself. Is there really a market for 100 reproduction bivalent hubs?

I think there may be a market for 170 pounds of them.

I think I’ll wait a little before asking about spare QR skewer springs.

Disclosing the fact that you wanted a literal bucket of spring clips for Jim Merz's custom hub production (for sale or himself, doesn't matter, it's a whale of a request) might have been a fine way for the people of this forum to know exactly the scale of what you had in mind.

Plus, I dare say anyone with Merz' talents doesn't need a bucket of everyone else's old hub oil clips. He probably knows how to make them bespoke.

Because of this?
P1030726 on Flickr

This was a result of a spring getting buried in the QR lever side deep in the housing of a newer hub set. There were two on that side!

1, he actually asked me if I knew of any. I could show you the email but don’t feel the need to prove anything to you.

2, I recall spring oil clips coming in a jar, maybe campy, maybe Zeus. But we had them in quantity because like a cable ends, it was a more efficient use of time to grab another than chase one down if it sprung or rolled away.

3, you seem hostile towards me. How about you simply ignore my posts?

4, oh, and happy holidays to the rest of y’all.

If you need any, just stop by the Atelier. I have no idea where they're at, but if you search in the deepest darkest corners you'll probably find several.

Sorry to sound like a broken record but had this been placed in the Wanted to Buy thread, perhaps PM's could have been exchanged and a deal struck.
But no, rules are meant to be broken.

Chuck M,
But did he have a "window"? I'll explain if I have to.
