Annual PISSING CONTEST: Your mileage 2022

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I personally I enjoy ending long rides right in the 95-99 mile mark. When people ask me about why I didn't complete the century, I say things like "look, I tried, OK???", or "I was tired."

It rained too much yesterday to ride my TT bike outside, so I will put it on the hamster wheel instead, effectively adding zero miles to my 2023 tally to many of you

I totaled 6,330 miles on my bikes for 2022 on 193 rides, compared to last years total of 5,343 miles on 189 rides. All outdoor, and over 95% of those were road bike miles in 2022. My goal for 2021 was 5,200 (100/week) and 6,000 miles (500/month) for 2022. April miles were down due to traveling back from Florida, and the rainy weather. November miles were down due to a big snowstorm around Thankgiving before we left PA for the winter in the first week of December. I also found time to play 108 rounds of golf.

Not too shabby for a 66 year old. Remember kids, retirement doesn't suck.

I actually put more miles on my bikes this year than I did on my car (6,130.7 miles)

63 y/o, work full time, 5th year of cycling...

Ended up with 7,203 after a riding accident on 12/13. Was riding dirt roads at night with friends (we do this every winter here in s/w Georgia) when a deer t-boned me from the right side. Deer jumped to cross the road (and us) and smacked into me like a linebacker. Knocked me off the bike, knocked me unconscious for 3-4 minutes, broke 3 ribs and I had severe bruising on my back from where I landed.

I didn't ride again until 12/28, and then on roads inside my neighborhood and gingerly.

My goal for 2022 was 7,305 (1 more mile than 2021), so I missed it by a tad.

Thankful to be riding again!

Gary

I did around 3000 miles, it's not an exact figure because I did not have a bike computer when I first got my bike . I did not start riding until July 30th when I got my bike. I am 64yoa in 9 days.

New guy here:

Did about 4,350 last year. 80% road, 10% gravel, 10% on the indoor trainer.

Goal was 5,500 - but I had a bad wreck last March - broken collar bone, ribs, busted up knee.

I have the same goal for this year, minus the wreck.

I beat everyone, besides putting many hundreds more on a variety of cycles, I put 1611 on this Huffy Scout in the last seven months of 2022, and hundreds more on it before that month which I started keeping records in.

Just got back into cycling last fall, after 15+ years away from my road bike. Since I work from home, I've been able to find time for a workout 3 to 5 days a week, aside from a few weeks when my bike was undergoing various servicing/maintenance.

Since mid-September, Strava says:
46 rides
2,127 km
7,511 meters vertical

After poking around on the Ride with GPS app I finally found where it show miles by month and year.

2022 miles were 6,230, and feet climbed: 109,957.

2021 was a little better, 7,497 miles and 131,465 feet climbed.

2020 was my best (recent) year because of COVID I had about 4 months off work so I could ride a lot more, 10,340 miles and 188,546’ climbed, but I ride in central Florida, not a lot of hills down here! But we do get to ride outdoors year round so no indoor trainer necessary. I do refuse to ride in the rain or heavy fog, or when it’s below 35 degrees so there are a few days a year I won’t go out but 99% of mornings are excellent for riding.

Google sent my monthly activity updates but searching my mail I can only see 7 of them according to these emails I travelled 6429 km. Converting by x (12 /7) assuming the same for the rest of the year x (5/8) to convert to miles = 6888 miles.
