I didn't watch the video but is there any info about the Scott Mathauser pads? That is likely very old glue holding the pad to the holder. Very nice bike.

I watched the video when I saw this posted on CR list , very nice bike and excellent workmanship in the old world sense. Those lugs are beautiful! Box lining and lug lining are perfect .

"old glue", probably so but Mr. Bock is one of the very best in the business bar none, I can all but guarantee he addressed it one way or another if he had anything to do with it.

Question, is this brake pad reputation truly earned?

Or is it like the Cinelli model 71 pedals, the "death-traps" where everyone knows this girl who had a brother who's best friend died from not getting his feet out in time.

I rocked them on my BMX as a kid.

And I attempted to remove a pad from an old pair I have. The rubber ripped. The glued part stayed put.

The bike was on display at the Philly Bike Expo several weeks back- quite stunning in person. The owner was taking (final) delivery of it there, and was eager and happy to chat about it, the build, sourcing the parts, etc. I'm old and biased toward 'old' sorta stuff and found the expo to be pretty disappointing, with the exception of this bike, and the ones on show from Bilenky, Chapman and Coast. And the King Cage guy was there, too, bending up various cages (and selling the Iris for $15 a pop!).

I must be a real genuine Luddite. The Campy used on this bike is modern to me. Only friction shifting Campy is vintage.

Ha! I kinda thought the same thing when I first saw it- "Beautiful bike, but what's up with those modern components.....?" I bet it rides/performs beautifully, though!

Nah, you just have to use your imagination and see it as you would build it up given the capability and availability of your parts of choice.

Anyone building like this will gladly build one exactly how you want it for complete oldschool or just like this for the best of both worlds.

Pretty modern running gear, wheels and brakes, oldschool where I could make it work, HS and quill stem were critical to me for this.

Rides like a dream, one of the smartest things I've ever done in my life.

Good question. I have had two of them come off myself, and I've worked on bikes for customers that had pads come off, maybe two or three times.
It does seem to be a bit random, with some of them seemingly reliable. But how do you know the one you have is reliable? The stakes are high.

The Chapman stuff at the expo was awesome as well. I enjoy following the Chapman Instagram. Always something being made and very interesting.

I would encourage you to look him up and find the blue and I think green ones he did a few years ago, very serious Raleigh tribute like vibe, absolutely stunning and beautiful IMO.

He was at the last Oregon framebuilders show, saw them in person and they were fantastic.

I thought the same thing. I describe most of my bike as vintage frames with modern Campy drivetrains, and this is what I use. Only recently have I thought to sometimes add a comment about the fact that my "modern" drivetrain is 10-20 years old.
