I feel positive energy here. It is probably hard to believe but I felt better energy on Yamaha V-max forum comparing to Harley or Kawasaki Vulcan forums. (Older people ride tourers/cruisers)
This forum is much better (healthier) than any motorcycle forum.. I better stick here

My mom wouldn't let me have motorcycles. But I can say that the bike I have now cost a lot more than the motor bikes my friends had back in my teen years when I wanted a motorcycle.

You still can play with bicycles for part of the week and motorcycles for the other times! <grin>

I started riding bicycles to get in better shape for off-road motorcycling. I know some motorcycle racers, both on and off road, ride bicycles for fitness.

When bicycling and stopping someplace with a lot of motorcyclists, there will always be cigarette smoking. So there's that.

I loved riding my BMW R-60 US. But when I brought it back to the States, it just wasn't as fun and was more dangerous. So few people in this country know how to drive. So I parked it. Dead bike now, too bad. Riding bicycles is way less dangerous.

I still enjoy anything with 2 wheels, and I don't even smoke. But all my MC friends do. Go figure. At least we all drink.

Where did you ride it?
My late brother rode in Europe, Japan, and even New Zealand. He commuted and rode for fun in California and Arizona until he couldn't.

There are lots of different motorcycling disciplines. Some of the racing ones require very good fitness levels to be competent and elite levels to be really competive.

I've known a fellow on another forum who's been in both industries and been to many trade shows. Difference? The cyclists have narrowed and distorted shoulders. The motorcyclists use wheelchairs.

I can proudly say I'm a shoulder guy.

Oh, and edit: I used to know a motorcyclist with a very distorted gait. Used to race the dirt track on big bikes. Now that takes real skill, real guts and some real muscle.

I bought the BMW while I was in the army in Germany. I took a European out. So, most of Europe, the Alps of course, Morocco (wonderful), Yugoslavia (back when it existed), and Turkey. I went down the obligatory 6 times while turning myself into a rider. I shipped it back to the US and rode from NYC to Seattle via Route 66 in 5 days flat in the middle of December, staying just ahead of winter storms.

I was wondering if perhaps you thought that's what one or both of us were talking about. Which would have been wrong. So now I can laugh.

Back in my V-twin days, I used to ride with guys with nicknames like "Fat Freddy" and "Buffet Ray". It doesn't take a lot of physical fitness to ride around on a cruiser from eatery to eatery.

Motorcycle is long gone, but the tattoos remain.

I sold my 750 long ago when it became obvious that I was on my bicycle any time the weather was nice. I occasionally miss it, but then I realize that a new motorcycle would cut into my bicycle budget...

I was part of the car culture, but it might as well been motorcycles, when fun drives always stopped at restaurants and taverns for lunch or dinner which is a big part of the social aspect. People always had a beer or two and what I would consider an unhealthy lunch with deep fried foods with high fat content. To backup a bit, before the drive we would have breakfast together too. To summarize, eat, sit for a few hours, have a high calorie meal and then sit some more.

I gave that up for a few reasons. First, it was general health. I was putting on weight, I was becoming less fit, and breathing too many exhaust fumes - from cars without catalytic (cat) converters - for hours on end. Another big reason was environmental. Driving a vintage vehicle for hours at a time without a cat is not environmentally friendly.

The vintage club motors on with regular, including multi-state, drives but instead of joining them, I cycle. As a result my weight is down to what it should be, I eat healthy, but still meet with them monthly (but not during a drive) for dinner, since they are a good group of friendly guys.

I sound like an evangelical reformed smoker. HA!

I loved my motorcycles until the first kid arrived. Had to de-risk. Too many accidents are not the rider's fault. True with bikes, too, but with a lot less speed and mass involved. And a motorcycle lets one do things a bike never could...

I have broken a collar bone on both a bicycle (l) and road motorcycle (r). Does that count for anything?

FWIW, the bicycles stuck for life.
