It's Time for New Shoes

I searched through my subscribed threads for info about C&V-styled, laced cycling shoes. Most of the links in those threads are now dead. After 7 years, I guess that's not surprising.

Detto Pietro still advertises but there's no way I can order a pair in my size.
Giro Republics have been discontinued.

Although I could, I do struggle with the idea of paying $300 for a pair of cycling shoes.

Also, I have had trouble with shoe sizing over the decades and buying internationally, without touching and trying on, concerns me because of the freight charges (up to $50 each way). My experience says US 13 in NOT Eu 47, as advertised on so many places. My last Giro purchase was no exception.

What to do,... what to do?

Forget to say this - I use clips and straps but no longer use cleats.

For C&V, I'm using the Vittoria '1976' shoe: https://vittoriashopus.com/1976-seri...ced/71-size-48

The 1976 goes up to Euro 50, which is a US 15. Their Euro 48 = US 14.

There are several versions of the shoe, some versions have a walkable SPD sole: https://vittoriashopus.com/23-1976-series

I highly recommend the '1976' cleat, which will fit on any Look drilled shoe: https://vittoriashopus.com/accessori...76-cleats.html

Vittoria shoes are nominally a D width shoe, but I'm a C width and I get a good fit on the shoe by drawing up the laces a bit more than typical.

Otherwise, check Amazon.

Talk to Ian over at Lennon Shoes. I think mine cost about $120.00.
He made sure I got the right size. https://williamlennon.co.uk

+1! I bought my Lennon shoes many years back and have been very pleased. At that time, they were built to spec for half the cost of anyone else doing that kind of work.

The leather and rubber sole on these appeals to me greatly. Thanks for the tip.
