My First CF Road Bike. I'm STOKED!!

Yesterday afternoon a friend of mine stopped over for a visit and in his trunk was a bike he'd recently bought that I coveted. Negotiations were made, hands were (virtually) shook and now it's mine! It's a 2009 Fuji Team RC high modulus CF, which sports Utegra SL. I'm pretty stoked.

I've been wanting a full CF roadie for a long time, but have not been willing to pay the premium over aluminum for one. My buddy had recently bought this one for a song, but he didn't care for the fit and decided to pass the savings on to me. He's going to keep the wheels and rear cassette, but I have a brand new set of wheels that are 10-speed compatible that will be perfect for this bike. I also have composite pedals I can swipe from another road bike, so all I need is a 10-speed cassette.

Here's a pro photo. I really stink at photography, so I'm not going to bother posting any of my over/under exposed pictorial artwork.

It's my understanding that these bikes had an MSRP of around $4,000, but they were being clearanced from Performance bike for $1400 to $1600 at one time, which sounds like a pretty good deal to me. I paid much less.

Nice! I like the bit of rake in the front fork, a nod to classic styling.

I have the same bike. It has over 35k miles on it. The only mechanical failure it’s ever had was a broken shifter cable. Great bike that rides nice. Isn’t that first time on a full CF frame amazing? You just feel the bike propel with each pedal stroke. If you keep up with your chain maintenance it will last you for years. Enjoy the ride.

Thank you. I'm awaiting delivery on a new 12-23t 10-speed cassette. This is going to be a fun bike to ride.

Sorry, but I'm still just an amateur bicycle photographer. Fact is, this particular bike came my way for free. It was discarded because of a small scratch in the frame. Some parts were cannibalized & missing. I got some new wheels, brakes, & crank. Put it all back together. And, been riding it for about a year now. Interesting what you can find in the trash these days. No worries. Be good. Have fun.

Thanks! The Ultegra 10-speed cassette arrived, but there was no lockring (freakin' ebay ) included in the package. Does anyone know if a 9-speed lockring will work as a substitute?

I have to say that the CF must do something for average speeds increasing. Mine went up a little right out of the winter season gate, when typically the speeds are not all that great for a few rides.

Congrats!

Mine won't. I barely used the trainer this Winter and am having a hard time motivating to get out these days, so I'm not in very good shape compared to this time last year.

Thanks!

Great looking bike OP, hope you enjoy it. And yes, I do remember my first carbon bike (only about five years ago) and it felt almost "too" light and and as if I had an extra gear. Can't say those feelings lasted that long but my LOOK 585 is still my favorite ride.
