You don't know what titanium looks like? If it's ti it's probably not completely painted. You should be able to see the bare metal.

Technium is not titanium. AFAIK the good ones were made from what later became known as the 7000 series aluminum we all know & love.
The Tri‐Lite Techniums were good frames & are still well regarded.

Please don't do any of this.
Do NOT put a magnet anywhere near a Ti bike. The resulting electro-chemical interactions will destroy the bike, the magnet, and anyone nearby.
To see if it is actually Aluminum, or an aluminum alloy, do a "file test." (Hack saws also work---or even an old steel knife.) Scrape off a good handful of dust or shavings from the top tube, and see if they burn. Better hope the frame is not magnesium.

You did? I went and scraped a good amount of titanium off of my Moots with my steel knife like you said (BECAUSE I TRUSTED YOU - with all your years here) and now there's damage to the frame. It can't be fixed.. I'd have to send it back to Colorado to have the top tube replaced. But getting an infraction for that is more upsetting to you than having me damaging a bike that cost me thousands.

This is likely the source of confusion. Check the frame and see if has the word "Technium" on it anywhere.

Raleigh only made a couple of ti frames, there was one that was a periwinkle blue that I wanted but couldn't afford. The ti frame will have very small welds, like you would find on a steel bike but won't be magnetic. Start with a magnet on the top tube, sticks its obviously steel. Look for scratches, ti has a distinctive gray color to it, if any scratches have a shiny look or it seems like a bright metal then its aluminum.

I keep telling myself to stop replying to threads started by someone making their first post because 95% of the time you never hear from them again, not even a thanks. Someday I'll learn.
Ought to make a rule that if a newbie with zero posts starts a thread asking a question and they never come back the thread gets deleted so nobody else will waste their time replying. Or make it like it is with pictures. Can't start a thread until you have X number of posts.

It's possible to mistakenly give advice or even repeat something one thinks is true, but turns out to be incorrect. However, when the advice is purposely misleading, the perpetrator should be banned, IMO.
