No drive side pic but the bike looks clean. Asking price on this is $500 on St. Louis CL. $500 is a little high for this bike.

Assuming the bike is stock, it has a campy crank and derailleurs, modolo brakes, stronglight A 9 headset (great headset), sunshine hubs, matrix rims. The frame is Reynolds 531 CS.

I doubt you'll get the seller to move on the price given what is written in the ad and you are unlikely to find a bike in as good a condition as this assuming it checks out. If you like it and it fits you, this is a reasonable price even if you might be able to do "better" if you shop around.

I had one of these and it's a great riding bike. Sadly wrecked it last year. $500 seems high to me too but I'd probably pay it for a clean example.

Given what I'm seeing, $350. But that's the bottom of where I'd expect anyone to get to and I'm a cheapskate if it's not a brand I lust over. I also think $500 is the just north of high of where I'd expect this to sell at, which is $450. Mostly because based on tires, hoods and tape, this needs at least $100 in supplies to refurb back to riding condition, or $250 if you have a shop do the work. The (apparent) Modolo hoods are unobtanium.

Fair walkaway is $400 given the (apparently) exceptional condition. This isn't a 770, which would fetch $500 easy in this shape, or a 170, which would fetch $900 easy in this shape. I had a mid-80s 660 and 760 or two over the years. Really wasn't comfortable for me, came off as a little twitchy. But I'm sure there are people out there who love these.

Paid a bit north of that for mine, large frame, ready to ride, been looking for one in my size for a few years. Modded it somewhat, only a fan of white stuff that you touch, on a wall hanger.
Bike in the ad looks lightly used, and very original. Some new tires and probably ready to go. If those white Modolo 919 anatomic hoods are in good shape, probably worth it, relatively rare model.

Just looking at that one pic, it looks to be in nice shape. $500 is not unreasonable for that bike in that condition. Higher-end Treks from the 1970/1980s are great riding bikes and good values. I have paid above that range for Treks of this era and have not been disappointed.

Interesting what you say re: twitchy and the Trek 760/770. Recently sold my 760 for that very reason. Very nice frame and lug work however there was something about the geometry or whatnot that did not inspire confidence during high speed descents. Very twitchy bikes, and not, for me at least, in a good way And yes I also had the same impression regarding comfort. Was something about it that just felt 'off' .. uncomfortable. Not sure what it was. Lots of people love them though.

Update; This bike has a new owner.

Hi Folks! This bike now has a new owner! I always wanted a mid 80's Trek road bike, after lusting over them in my youth. I saw this locally on CL at $500, but knew it was priced high. Later it turned up on Facebook Marketplace at $350. It's now in my garage, along with original 1985 Trek brochures. I even talked the seller down on price. Very filthy now, but cosmetically intact, minus some faded decals. The bike will need tires, tubes, brake hoods, lube and tune. Should clean up nicely with minimal cost or effort. Pictures to follow soon. My first post, btw...
